Action-RPG Recommendation?

I'm looking for a nice, long RPG to get for the PC. Preferably one that is exclusive to PC (not a multi-platformer like Mass Effect and Fallout 3).

I have played and cleared Fallout 3/New Vegas, Mass Effect 1/2/3, Dragon Age and many other RPGs on consoles and I was just looking for one on PC that would keep me busy for a good while.

Can anyone recommend one to me? Or at least send me a link?

    I'm stuck.

    Thanks in advance :)

You could try baldur's gate, icewind and Torment with the widescreen mod.

Failing that there's Diablo III and Torchlight.

Legend of Grimrock is well worth a look.

If you haven't already tried it, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is rather more action than RPG, but it's done very well.

+1 to the Baldur's Gate/ Icewind Dale/ Planescape: Torment* recommendations. Although there's an enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate coming out soon, with more modern resolutions and I understand some extra areas and quests to do. It was a classic when it came out, and extra content can't be a bad thing. Might be worth waiting for that to show up.

    * Seriously, Torment is probably the best RPG ever made. It's a stunning experience, worth every penny.

If you were a fan of the Fallout games and don't mind going back in time, you could try Fallout 1 and 2. Personally, I love 2 and would recommend going straight to that, but nothing wrong with starting at 1. Graphics and gameplay mechanics may be a little too date for some, though.

You should also try Knight of the Old Republic 1 and 2. KOTOR has one of the best stories and is one of the few Star Wars games that is actually worth playing.

Oh, I forgot to mention FTL: Faster Than Light. Fantastic little indie game with more than a few RPG elements, very reminiscent of Rogue, or ADOM, but in space.

Actually, if you're not bothered by ASCII "graphics", ADOM is a freaking amazing RPG.

The Witcher 1 and 2. RPG, nice, long. Regularly on sale on Steam and GOG. Pick em up.

I'd recommend KOTOR. the 2nd one isn't as good or quite as long but it's still a pretty fun game.

I'd also highly recommend the Deus Ex series. action/stealth RPG's set in a cyberpunk near-future that's on the brink of collapse (and not too far from reality that you couldn't see it ever happening) The first is one of the best PC games ever made. The 2nd is hit and miss due to some console orientated design choices but is still a great game if you're willing to look past them. The 3rd one is closer to the first and very nearly as good.

    I 2nd this. Fantastic games.

Also Darksouls is one of the more hardcore RPG's but its not exclusive to PC and I recommend using a 360 pad for the best experience.

The Elderscrolls games of course are insanely popular, Im not a huge fan but there worth a look.

The Gothic games are fun, Gothic 2 is my favorite but you need the community patch to get the most out of it.

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head :)

They've been mentioned before but Witcher 1 and 2 are superb games, and with 3 in development now is as good a time as any to get stuck in.

KoTOR 1 and 2 are very good games. There is a myriad of mods for each as well. I know one poster mentioned KoTOR2 not being as good but that might be down to how it was released with so much unfinished story. There is a very popular mod that restors all of the missing story content and makes for a much more satisfactory playthrough.

All of the above are worth multiple playthroughs.

Do you mean Gothic 3? Gothic 2 doesn't need anything to get the best out of it. There is a community patch for it but it doesn't allow you to install fixes only so you get fundamental changes that the "community" thought were needed. There is a fixes only patch out there somewhere though. Gothic 3 really really needs the community patch and with it becomes one of the greatest open world rpgs you'll ever play imo.

Maybe it was gothic 3, I can't remember tbh been so long sense I last played any gothic game.

Yea, its called 'The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod' or TSLRCM if you want to find it slightly quicker. Its a great mod that really makes KoTOR2 worth playing as all loose ends are pretty much tied up and you won't be left scratching your head in angry confusion upon completion (Much like I was first time round)

I loved Kotor 2's take on the force. I think it would have surpassed Kotor 1 had it been finished. Gotta try tSLRc sometime.

OP; All the above mentioned and well, you have FFXV coming out next year(with any luck), while it'll lack the choices, it has the open world, action rpg battle with tps in it too, seems to not be really cheesy like the recent ones and might have a great story. I particularly recommend Witcher 1 and 2 as well. I prefer them to both bioware and bethesdas games. I recommend STALKER shadow of chernobyl. With a certain mod on it(STALKER COMPLETE). It's NOT an Rpg, however it's very close to an RPG. Instead of you having stats to build up, just your equipment has stats(all of which raise your offense and defense etc). Other than that I think it pulled off the post apocalyptic mood better than any other game. It's a survival horror FPS. Equipment is everything in it.

It certainly has the feel of an RPG anyway. It's long, has quests, open world(more or less), loot it important(body armor, various NVG, stamina etc). Money is important(for equipment), you have to watch for radiation and your contamination level, eat food, bandages for bleeding and med packs etc. Best of all it can scare the crap out of you and it has better enemy design than any of the games you mention in your Op. Some of them are very creative.
