Newstalk: why the stupid "interesting stories" on News?

What is it with this station's News Editor that she/he feels the need to put in stupid "interesting stories" at the end of serious news? This evening it was about some waster going naked around a street in London. What is the point of this sort of vacuous trite making Irish news? Can they find anything in the entire world -which, believe it or not, goes far beyond Britain - more significant, interesting or serious?

The more I hear Newstalk, the more tabloid it seems to be.

It's to make us feel good again after listening to all the bad stuff.:pac:

I agree its a bit tabloidy but harmless none the less, its not as if they skimp on the real news to include a lighthearted story.

This happens a lot on news bulletins on TV and radio. The "and finally" bit thrown in to wrap up the bulletin in a positive way. Sometimes it can work, but can often come across as annoying.

ITN have been doing it for years in the UK, usually a dog on a skateboard or something similar.

I feel the type of slot works a lot better in the visual.

Turned it on this morning only to hear The Rubberbandits in the studio, turned it off straightaway.

2-3 weeks ago the interesting story that was on at each bulletin for the whole day, was about how small and light the newly launched ipad mini was, it sounded suspiciously like a blatant advertisement!
