    Hi All

In the last couple of weeks I have noticed there is a build up of moisture inside my windscreen every morning and evening. It seems particularly bad in my car for some reason as other cars seem to be in the clear where mine is all fogged up . It takes ages for the heaters to clear it as well L

Any idea whats causing it ?

Also could anyone advise of a good remedy?

    Thanks

not something silly like the blower set to recycle, rather then fresh air?

    Check your interior for leaks.
Make sure no water is getting in to your heater blower because of blocked drainages. What car is it?

    Edit: just beaten to it!

Moisture on in the inside of the car, for example a leak of the door seals, leaking heater matrix.
Are the carpets wet or anything?
    What make of car?

    Check for leaks:
    • windows
    • window seals
    • door seals
    • boot
    • windscreen
    • pollen filter
    • cabin heater matrix (unless you have electric heating)
    • boot seals
    • leaves / debris blocking plenum drainage.
If you have A/C, use it on recycle to clear windows in the morning, switching to fresh air once they clear.

    Sorry, no instant fix.

What car is it, to narrow the search for a solution down a little?

The moisture in the air is sticking to tiny pieces of grease and dirt on the inside of the windscreen. There may or may not be a leak somewhere in the car but whether there is or isn't, the short term solution is to clean the inside of the windscreen.

If you want to do a real thorough job, wipe the inside of the windscreen with a cloth soaked and rinsed in a mild detergent, then clean and polish with Autoglym.....

    Thanks for the replies :)

    To answer some questions

The car is a 2000 Civic Saloon

I don’t think there are any leaks. Well there seems to be nothing wet on the inside that I have noticed.

    Car does not have A/C

How would I know if I have a leaking heater matrix ?

The moisture also happens on the rear windscreen as well as the front.

I had a 96 Mercedes c class that was terrible for fogging up, you couldn't read the tax disc after 2 months.
Carpets were dry and no aircon, but I eventually discovered that if I kept the dash vents closed it didn't fog up, so for some reason moisture was settling in the vent system somewhere, never did get to the bottom of it.

As already stated, it's most likely a leak somewhere, bring the car to a self service car wash and focus on the seals around the doors and windows including rear and front.
Once you're finished cleaning the car, hop in and see if you have any streams of water on the inside.

Checking the heater matrix, turn the temperature up full and the blower up full. If you have a faulty matrix you will get air blown at you with a smell of coolant to it (if you have correct coolant/water mix in you're system)

Check the carpets in the passenger and driver footwell, any kind of wetness even the smallest is you're problem.

As stated before put the car through a car wash & check for water in the front & rear foot wells & the boot under the wheel cover & at the sides. One other place is the pollen filter, my wife's corolla had the same problem & I finally traced it to a wet pollen filter - replaced it & haven't had a problem since (don't know how it got wet/damp in the first place) Hope this helps.

My 3 series BMW is terrible also for fogging up and quite often I will have to run the A/C with the heater on for to dry the air to clear the glass as it is caused by moist air, that always clears it and once I turn it off. Not having A/c will make it impossible to clear I'd reckon.

    Windscreen seal leaking.
Put an open bag of rice on the dashboard and it will absorb the moisture.
Or leave all the windows down a quarter inch to vent the car overnight.
