    Hi Guys

I am looking at some Mazda 6 diesels ,was wondering whats your opinion on them ?.
I have 7000 to spend , want a good reliable car in and around 2007 with a good spec would be a plus.
Are there any other cars similar or better for this money.
Was looking at this high mileage i know

Mazda's 2.2 diesel is decent, but only came out very late in 2008. I wouldn't bother with the earlier 2 litre, if it works it works, but if it stops it stops with a bang.

Thanks just seen that most of the 2008 are beyond my price range , so stay away from the 1.9 ?

Yeah the 2.0 diesel is known to be a disaster and not just little things, the engine will nearly gaurenteed to explode at some stage.
Might sound dramatic a little but they are known to be terribly unreliable.
    2.2 is a reliable lump I believe.

Thats not high mileage at all to be honest!

Go for the 2.2 if you can afford the tax annually, nothing like a nice lump of an engine under you! I find the satisfaction factor is worth it alone when your happy with what you buy!!

Also I hope this thread doesnt turn into the old "are you doing enough miles for a diesel"

OP wants a diesel, so let him/her get a f*&^&ing diesel and comment on the question at hand

Is Diesel a requirement? A quick glance at 2006-2007 Diesels is showing some stupid prices compared to petrol.

I'd be inclined to buy a N/A petrol at your budget, unless you're going to be doing silly miles.

Less of your giving out and more of your informed posting or at least reading informed posts before ranting!! As was stated above, the 2.2 is only available in the new shape and only from very late 2008 onwards! So it's not an option for him! Tax is lower on it too...

... If he can't afford the 2.2 are you suggesting he should go with the older diesel so ?

    This might suit OP,

Quite an underrated car in my opinion. There's another owner on here with one with very high mileage and no problems to note AFAIK. My dad has the same engine in his 159 SW and at 70k km there's not been a single problem with it.

A simple remap brings it to 150bhp and retrofit cruise control and you get a very comfortable car along with a 6 speed box. Travelling from Galway to Limerick every day I know I'd want something comfortable anyway. I don't like those Mazda's either.

    It's under budget too. :)

While I agree they are a great car 166man would the OP may be put off at the sight of the badge, reputation and all that.

The engine is really decent but you would want to be able to see it's being maintained by the previous owner.

Really nice place to sit and drive in the front, not so nice if your passengers are tall sitting in the back!

But if it was me, the Alfa needs cow hide to make it truly comfy!

I'm sure the OP will probably be put off by the badge but they are actually a very good car and good value these days compared to some of the other crap out there.

Absolutely agree, a full service history is absolutely key with them and any newer diesel these days. I didn't get the impression that the OP carries passengers too much either.

Leather is a nice option but the cloth seats aren't actually that bad and look better in real life than the pictures suggest. At this money I guess you can't have everything! :o:D

The Saab 9-3 is going fairly cheap these days, diesel is the same 1.9 litre unit found in Alfa Romeo, Opel and Fiat models.

Yes, much better than years ago. The JTD lump is used in many other cars and is a proven unit
