How much is my iMac worth?

I bought my iMac about 7 months ago and although I love it I am having difficulties finding certain software that I need for work in iMac form. I think I am going to have to sell it and do the unthinkable/unforgivable thing and buy a pc again. If I could afford to I would buy a cheap laptop but times are very tight these days and I am going to need it for work more and more now.

How much would my iMac be worth. It is the 21.5" screen size.

    iMac
    21.5-inch, Mid 2011
Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

What kind of software do you require?

Branzfire and FDS. They are fire simulation software packages. FDS is available for iMac but I cant get it working properly even with the help of the developer himself. Branzfire is not available for iMac and my new boss wants me to be up to speed on it by February when I start work for her.

    Thats a real pain!

Have you looked for online tutorials for both programs?

Hi why not dual boot (keep the hardware just buy a copy of windows) and you get to keep both or you could use parallels software to allow a virtual windows environment to run the two software packages.
I used to build my own pc's have an imac myself now and you could cut me foot off before i'd go back. With the dual boot or virtual software you would only have to use windows when you had to.:o

Yea, as said, just install windows on it.
the re-sale value on macs are very good though.

+1 for Parallels or VMWare which is half the price.

Did anyone come across a decent valuing guide for 2nd hand iMacs at any stage? Just after reformatting my old one to post on Adverts but the wild variations in asking prices there aren't that helpful in figuring out what a fair price might be.

New price less 5% per year of use.

Not a chance. That is more than Apple's refurbished prices !
A private sale will mean a minimum of a 1/3 off the new price.

Wow, I would hang on to it.

Perhaps the OP should. Computers do not hold their value well.
If they dropped in value by 5% a year I would get a new one every year.

Here are the prices of refurbished iMacs from Apple reboxed and made look like new with a warranty.

Obviously Apple buy them 2nd hand for considerably less.

As others have said BlackEdelweiss, install VMware Fusion a copy of windows and VM it. I would consider upping the RAM to 16gb though (bout €70) and you'll virtualise windows and a good speed.

If you're going down a dual boot route you're better off doing a proper installation of Windows via boot camp rather than virtualisation.

I've a win8 VM running on a macbook Mem and it goes like the clappers. I've never really trusted bootcamp.
