Megane Fan always on

Have a 2006 Megane (199K Km) and in the last couple of days the radiator cooling fan comes on as soon as the engine starts and stays on nearly all the time. It does switch off for a few seconds every minute or so but no longer than that.

Does anyone know what may be causing this and if it's likely to be an expensive fix or not ?

you may have 2 problems with this. The upc unit beside the battery may have been damaged by water getting into it. the other problem may be in the wiring. part of the engine wiring loom which runs below the battery may be damaged by corrosion. have come across this on a good few of these cars. if the wiring is the fault it is not a major repair as the damaged wiring can be cut out and new wiring can then be soldered in.

As for the wiring above aspect, make sure the access port in the wheel arch is still there. If it wasn't refitted properly in the past it may have fallen off and allowed spray up to the electrics.
    or
could be something so simple as a faulty temp gauge?

Did you check if you A/C is not on at all times for the last few days?

Air con hasn't worked for a couple of years. Main Dealer said it was probably the pump/motor and quoted me 800 squids so I walked away.

I'll bring it to an autoelectrician to have a look, thanks.

If you can get your hand down the front of the rad. Check for any cold/hot spots after the car warms up. The rad could be chocked, my parents car has this problem at the moment. This will make the fan work constantly for the whole journey.
I know you said it starts as soon as you start the car but might be worth a look.

Ask him to check the aircon while he's at it. The first line just smacks of main dealer not wanting to bother looking at something that wasn't a service or simple sale.

Just an update on this, brought it to a main dealer who put it on a diagnostic. Said he "cleared" the fault that showed up and hey presto all seems well. Dealer said he came across this fault a few times before.
