Everyone eventually stumbles across work by M.C. Escher, whether it is the, 'Drawing Hands' or the, 'Hand with Reflecting Sphere'. You'll (usually) instantly recognise the style of art, without knowing much, if anything, about the artist.

Escher had an interesting life, here's the documentary, 'Metamorphose', including film interviews with the artist himself, set sometime towards his later years.

A lot of his work is lithographic art, which I find even more amazing. A very mathematical artist.
