    Even the gay ones?

You cannot blame and punish an entire country/population for the stupidity of some of its people.

There is huge support for this measure amongst the Ugandan people. Let's offer asylum to the gay ones, and I'd be interested in hearing how you'd deal with the Ugandan government re. this legislation.

Well, it's a relatively new phenomenon over there (the mad anger over it all like), with them American god-freaks finding a poor, uneducated population who they can manipulate, seeing as though there weren't getting too far over in the states.

Offer asylum only to the gay ones? Sure as a kid, I'd a fierce mistrust of everything English.. up till I moved over there and got to 'experience' them.. Would you sit back and punish yer poor granny or grandad if they backed an anti-gay movement back in the 40's? Or do ya think maybe it was the people in power who were the problem there - filling their poor brains with rubbish? Them lot didn't have the internet to research topics back then, most don't in Uganda today.. they're relying on their community leaders.. good luck with that like.. but isn't that all they know?

They're nowt but fluffy sheep - why ya wanna harm them :p - it's cultural.. but just because they happen to be born in Uganda doesn't mean they're any different to ourselves.. we're just lucky to have a lot more resources available..

re. how to deal with it.. f*ckd if I know.. Well, the wealth nations who use up all of Africa's resources could pay them a fair amount?? - but that's just a joke.. so, erm..

The western governments should know exactly where their aid money goes... so to stop the problem, why not have the donating countries take more control over where that aid goes (never stopping it), but ensuring the leaders there lose out big time? they'll still benefit - but benefit less... doable? - not a hope - sure, the wealthy (western - since we're hardly wealthy) countries have agreed to pay a certain percentage of their GDP to these countries.. do ye think our leaders actually care what happens with it? not a chance. So, effectively, until western leaders actually care about others, nothing's gonna happen.. :/ .. in a nutshell, blame leaders, not people eh?

Don't blame the people, blame the Government! Anyone has any education should understand this.

The anti-gay issue wouldn't even come into it for me. I would've cut aid long before then if it is being spent by a corrupt government to finance their weapons programmes, among other unknowns.

And then if you look at it logically, why are we giving away millions that we don't have? We're currently borrowing money to give away.

Unpopular opinion, but if the money isn't going to where it was supposed to, and is not fulfilling its intended purpose, it should be stopped immediately.

Why do we still raise huge sums of money for the RC church in Ireland, when it teaches children that to be homosexual is to be "morally disordered"?

We give and raise money for despicable organisations of all sorts, ao why single out Uganda?

Them and the Roman Catholic Church you mean! That damn Catholic church started all this crap just so they could make sure there was always an offspring to keep them in power. All the other Christian churches came after them. It all leads back to the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church colonises all the poor countries to feed them a few scraps and force their ideology down their throat.

I don't, never have done, and encourage others not to.
    Why Uganda?
One has to start somewhere, and when gay people are targeted it becomes more than personal, because I doubt many straight people give a damn.

because not every decision has to boil down to a country's stance on sexual preferances. ie the country is poor as **** regardless of whether or not they are anti gay

It's not just about being anti gay

It's about introducing laws to execute people because they are gay

I'm genuinely sorry for you if you feel defending human rights is something to be disregarded so lightly.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Ignore away.

I didn't say I agree with or against anything - just trying to illustrate how your initially argument is really really poor.

I don't think the current aid system to Africa is working at all. If anything, most African countries have stagnated or got worse in the past 40+ years of aid, notwithstanding the issue of rampant homophobia in many of these countries.

I am of the opinion that until African countries can govern themselves properly, they will never climb out of the mire of poverty, war, misery and destitution.

This poster has stated what I ought to have posted originally- though for me the anti-gay push was the last straw.
