Social Welfare claim problem due to p45

Hey guys, I applied 10 weeks ago in Dun Laoghaire for social welfare. Although I left my job by choice, I had felt I was bullied out and explained this to them, to which they responded that I should have no problem receiving social welfare.

2 weeks ago, I ventured in to see what was happening with my claim - the man I was dealing with came out to see me, and told me that he would be closing my claim because I had yet to bring my p45 in... I explained that for those previous 8 weeks, I had been chasing my former employers about getting my p45 from them with no luck. Still, to this day, I have yet to receive my p45 and I am afraid that I will not get anything from the social welfare office.

Is there anything I can do to have my claim processed without the p45? My old job are still "chasing it up". I'm flat broke, have had to move back in with my mammy and am at my wits end!

Give the tax office a buzz - your employer may have already done one online (although they're supposed to give you a copy).

Was there a problem with your final pay cheque (possible overpayment?) Not that this matters - you're still entitled to a P45 even though it may be incorrect (your employer can do a corrected supplementary P45 later).

Hey thanks for the reply. No, there was no problem with my final payment. They just haven't bothered processing my p45 at all, I have been on to revenue and as far as they were concerned, I was still an employee there for the last 9 weeks (I rang them last week)!!

Have to say employers messing people around really bugs me. Is there any friendly soul in payroll who can sort your P45 out for you?

You could also get HR to send out a letter to you stating when you finished working. Have you applied to your community welfare officer for supplementary welfare allowance while you are waiting for your claim to be processed??? If not you should do so immediately.

I say bury your previous employer with paper work, if you can face them.

Call in and tell them the social welfare office wants a letter saying the P45 is delayed and another letter saying when you left.

Its all you can do really, you could try the citizens information center for a way around the P45 issue, but I cant think of any way.

If the social close your claim, you may lose all the arrears from the time you have started you claim until now.

Hey guys, thanks for your replies!

I went in today to see what social welfare would say regarding my situation. They've closed my claim, stating I hadn't brought in proof of address or p45. I told them the situation regarding p45, and that I had brought in both a reference stating when I had finished and had also given proof of address.

Turns out they have misplaced them, so I just need to get another copy of both in to them!

    Thanks again guys.
