I realise from reading threads here there are many craft beer lovers on here.
What do people think of more mass produced bottled beers?
    My thoughts on them are
    Bud- ok if on special
    Heineken- Best of the lot
    Miller- Watery
    Sol- Watery
    Carlsberg- Not nice

I do like bottles of Karpackie, which I've only seen in Super Valu. good value
    Spaten is also very nice

If I am out and the pub doesn't sell craft beer then I usually go with Heineken or Coors Light. Sometimes Fosters if Im on a budget.

If no craft beer I'd drink pints of Guinness usually. "Mainstream" lagers do nothing for me

Have taken to Fosters lately when at home, it's cheaper than other pints and I actually think nicer than Heineken/Carlsberg/Bud, in that it can be quite drinkable for €3

I absolutely hate Heineken it's disgusting IMO. Bud tastes of nothing but I could actually stomach it. If I ever want something marketed I'll get the people who made Corona popular. Without a shadow of a doubt the foulest tasting piss I've ever tasted. I wanted to vomit on taking a sip of it

Should have read the OP, they were referring to bottles!!!!

Sorry! Although the Heineken/Corona comments stand

When I'm at a wedding, or in a pub where I know there is no "craft beer" I ask for the following, usually in this order.

    Large bottle of MacArdles
    Large bottle of Guinness
    Pint of Smithwicks

There'd usually be at least one of them things.

I do not like lager, craft or otherwise, so my next port of call would be a mixed drink, G&T, Rum & Coke or a single malt.

Bottled lagers - I'd take a Sol or Corona over a Miller/Bud mainly because of the lime in it, makes it mildly enjoyable. Heineken is fairly inoffensive, but not exactly enjoyable.

In a pub that has no craft beers its pints of Guinness or pints of Smithwicks.

I know it might sound cliched, but can any Bud drinker explain why they drink it? If you like beer, surely you'll drink something that actually has a taste?

Of all the mainstream lagers, Bud is the one I reckon I'd be able to recognise in a blind tasting.
Its taste might be light but I think it is distinctive.

I have a rule. If they have only "mainstream" beers on tap, go for the Guinness. Only reason is that its usually quality controlled. The lagers you mention are really down to how the pub clean their lines, usually they don't and your Heino will taste even worse than it is when its presented in its best form. In bottled form, I find the lagers mentioned too gassy for the stomach, not nice.

Funny thing is I drank Bud Light in USA a couple of months ago, it tasted nothing like Bud here, it was actually quite drinkable.

Not at all true, all macro breweries lines are cleaned twice a month. I also know a few of the older generation barmen who consider Guinness' quality control to be disappearing under Diageo.

On quality, the pints of lager presented in alot of Dublin pubs disagree with you.

I'm a beer fan but if I was stuck to mainstream bottles it'd be bud light or coors light. Thoughg I wouldn't buy either really. I'd rather drink Guinness than pay the same price or more for a long neck. Pubs are so overpriced. SoHo in Cork is €5.80 for an Erdinger 500ml bottle. That's ridiculous!

Spaten is a totally different beer to any of the ones you mentioned above and definitely belongs in the craft beer section. I deem craft beer as beer that isn't ****e :P

Lately I've stuck to German beer almost 100% exclusively and I feel better for it. The Reinheitsgebot makes a serious difference the next day!

But the Guinness is always sublime?

    Bottled beer??

Will go for miller these days. Last choice is carlsberg last. Otherwise I enjoy most of them equally......

I find them all very hard on my stomach the next day.

Not always. There's a higher chance of your Guinness being better quality than one of the lagers on tap hence I opt for it in an emergency situation. If its sub-par(which can happen), I guess the next choice is an overpriced beer bottle!
