So the old clothes hanger is working, but only intermittently, because its wobbling around.

Where can I buy a cheapo aerial in the city centre? As in anyone know a specific shop/location that has them?

    nearest €2 shop

UHF aerial .... not digital aerial ;)

Why not put a wee stand on the wire hanger? :D

Have you actually seen them in Dealz? I was in several Dealz stores when I was looking for one and they all said they didn't stock TV aerials. Eventually got one in an obscure Euro shop in Bray, not one of the big chains.

It is not excellent at all. It is a VHF aerial, it even says so. You need a UHF aerial.

    According to here:
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Signalex-Indoor-VHF-and-UHF-Antenna-Aerial-Coaxial-cable-F-connector-/120783225258

it's UHF also. Depending on how the telescopic parts are adjusted it should work to some extent on UHF. Probably around as good as a coat hanger. The main issues with a coat hanger is that if directly connected into the TV the signal may be blocked by the TV itself. Also the end of the coathanger can damage the connector on the TV or set top box. A repair to the aerial connector on a TV can be very expensive.

I must be receiving Saorview in VHF then.

That ebay item says it has a F connector as well.:( Still if it doesn't work you can hang coats on it.

I can't imagine anyone stupid enough to poke a coat hanger into a coax socket.
