mpg has been fairly poor for the last while, i blamed it for being a stupid berlingo.

always filled up in garage down the road. its on the way to work and 2 mins down the road.

was getting on average 180 km to 20 euro.

filled up elsewhere yesterday. got a noticeable bit more. like if it was 40 euro it`d be quarter of a tank more. and mileage seems to be going a good bit further too.

who do you put a complaint into. i know he got checked a few months back. maybe thinking sur i wont be checked again

How many litres is what you should be working off, not how many euro.
    Litres are a fixed amount.

Did you consider fact that for the last few months petrol was at about 1.699 while recently is more likely 1.559
    That can make significent difference.

Your measures are very not precise for the grounds to any complaint.

Get a bottle and fill up 5 litres from there. If indicated 5 litres is not really 5 litres, then you have grounds for complaint.

12.99 litres for the mpg for 20 euro

Get a green 5 ltr PVC petrol can available at most petrol stations.
Put 5ltrs of petrol in it as per amount on pump.
Go home and get a 1ltr measuring jug and see if it amounts to 5 x 1ltr measuring jugs.
You would need something else to put the petrol in while emptying the green PVC can.
    Write down result.

Repeat experiment with 5ltrs from second petrol station and compare & contrast.

NB. When filling your petrol can make sure that it is at the same air temperature.
NB. Do not use naked flames when doing experiment.
    Experiment only outdoors.

To avoid that type of "experimenting", but on very similar lines, get an approved 5 litre fuel container that is semi-transparent, fill it with exactly 5.00L of water, get a permanent marker and carefully draw around the level on a level surface.

    Empty & dry it out.

Refill to exactly 5.00L of fuel, look inside and compare your black marker line to see if it lines up with the fuel level. Once happy, pour into your car with the attached nozzle.

sounds good - try it and if it works, you can then do it again with the diesel you usually buy OP.

How many kms have you travelled since filling up and deciding that there's an improvement in consumption? Presumably this improvement is based off the gauge on the dash?

What engine have you got?ive a 1.9D no turbo poverty spec...
10 Euro will get me 100k and 20Euro will get me roughly 220k
All done off the gauge, but it never really goes up or down Tbh..
Full tank start of this week 80 or so euro got 750km from it

You've just shown exactly why going off the gauge can be very inaccurate :)

If you got 8 €10s worth you'd get roughly 800km
If you got 4 €20s worth you'd get roughly 880km
But when you buy €80 you only get 750km

The actual mpg would no doubt be consistent :)

    I'm at 150 kms with a 8th of a tank left, a 8th would usually do 70-80kms

On what? I couldn't give a flying what the bike does to the gallon but what annoys me is there being such a discrepancy in amounts. Probably deliberate. It's not one pump out, there all the same

Like would you think it's fine if you ordered 1000 litres of home heating oil and only got 800?

So you expect this €20 to provide 230 kms ie 50mpg :)

True, I was just trying to establish the situation in an actual quantitative measure :)

Father is working in Dublin at the mo. And decided to do a test.

Filled up in whites cross. 30klms left on trip. Filled up cost 103 euro at 1.44.9
Drove to dublin with cruise control. Hotel to job for the week and back to cork. Took the full tank.

Next week filled in ballyvolane. Trip saying empty. Cost 97 euro to fill at 145.9

Drove to dublin with gas bottles and welders etc. Job to hotel for the week. One trip to airport. Back to cork and carrigtwohill and back . About 60 klms more. And still have just under a 1/8 of a tank left.

Also fuel filters blocking about every 20k klms.

Enough proof for me that I wasnt going mad
