Dorothy Perkins Website

In the past few days, Dorothy Perkins have changed their website so if you're ordering from anywhere in Europe outside the UK, the prices are in Euro, as well as the sizes.

Surprise surprise, the exchange rate is absolute BS. There's a coat I wanted off my boyfriend for Christmas, only last week I sent him the link to it from the UK site and it was £50. Now on the euro site it's €77. I'm completely confused about the sizing as well, as you can't change the default sizing back to UK sizings.

I'm absolutely furious about this. It's obviously only a very recent thing because I ordered two dresses last week from the UK site paying a sterling price. Now you can't get delivery to Ireland if you order through the co.uk site. How can they justify the extra cost? In the store they tell us it's because of higher overheads and VAT, but the clothes are still coming from the UK so that's all absolute crap.

    :mad::mad::mad:

    /rant

Edit: The size guide is infuriating!! A 16 UK is a 44 in France, and a 42 in Germany and Denmark. So which one is the Euro size??? :(

It's incredibly annoying when websites do this, although I can understand why they do it, but if you still want to order from the UK site you can use Parcel Motel.

Thanks, hadn't even thought of that. Will be doing that next time :)

I'd write to them, outlining your complaints. While they probably won't do anything about the currency, they might be interested in the sizing point.

    I sent them this:
    Hi,

I am a long-time customer of Dorothy Perkins, specifically purchasing items online and having them delivered to me in Ireland.

The main reason I choose to shop online rather than in-store is because the mark-up from sterling to euro is extortionate. I know that in Ireland we have a higher VAT rate, higher wages and higher overheads, so it is understandable that there is a mark-up. However I was infuriated to log on to the Dorothy Perkins website today to be redirected to a "Euro" website, where there is a considerable mark-up on the price of clothes available on the UK website. How is this justified, when the clothes are still being shipped from the UK and therefore there are no additional costs? I pay for international shipping, therefore why is it fair that I should pay more for your clothes just because I live in a country with a different currency?

Additionally, and this is a VERY serious oversight on your part, when redirected to the Euro site, the clothes sizes are displayed ONLY in Euro sizes. This is fine in all other European countries, where they use Euro sizings. However in Ireland we use UK sizings and many Irish customers have no idea about Euro sizings. This has resulted in a very frustrating and lengthy amount of time trying to find my correct size, especially since your sizing guide gives different sizes for France and Germany, so I have no way of knowing which is the correct size.

Because of the reasons given above, you are in serious danger of alienating a lot of your Irish online customers. I hope you will pass my complaint on and serious consideration will be given to my grievances.

    Yours sincerely,

Maybe a bit hysterical and OTT :o But hopefully it will be passed on to someone who might take notice!

I noticed the sizing last night - I got confused and ended up looking elsewhere and I'm sure I won't be the only one. Didn't even notice the pricing, but that'll be one more reason not to shop with them.

44 is a UK 16 well at least according to DP labels

there is also a link to a size calculator at the bottom of the page to help you find the right size...... needless to say it's not working (well not for me anyhow)

I am so ratty about these changes. I used to like getting clothes from DP online and i will never use the site again. I am so annoyed. I would predict that the orders from customers in Ireland will decrease dramatically

I got an email from them during the week announcing the launch of the EU site and I just knew it meant an increase in prices! I used to purchase the odd item from the UK website because the prices were better but I won't support the EU one at all. I've sent them a complaint too, maybe if enough of us do they will allow us the option of buying in sterling.

Yeah must get scribing an email! I used their site a LOT. Hence why I had gone cold turkey recently as I just do not have the money but went to look last night after reading here and I was disapppointed. Won't be buying off the website.

Post on their facebook and twitter pages too! They're more likely to give you a proper response on a public forum. I hate when UK stores do this

I didn't think of that. I'm not on twitter but will defo post to their FB.

I just sent them a complaint as well in relation to the stupid size guides and the slight price differences. The nearest Dorothy Perkins to me is a part of Shaws and the online prices are still cheaper than Shaws so I'll be sticking with the website for now anyway.

Is it just me or can you not post on their FB page?! Bad form if that's the case.

    I can't either.

Maybe it's to do with the setup of the page.

You can comment underneath a picture though.

    Just after realising that

I've posted under their latest post (the flash sale one) on their FB page in case anyone wants to agree :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

If anyone's wondering, this is what they responded on FB:
Hi Niamh, Thank you for your feedback, we have passed all your comments on to the correct department within Dorothy Perkins. With regards to the sizing please currently refer to the France sizing guide, we will be adding a dedicated Irish sizing guide as a high priority - thank you for bringing this to our attention. x

Haven't heard anything back from the email complaint yet.

Thanks for anyone here who also posted on FB!

I haven't received any reply back and I'm pretty peed off to be honest, they'd want to get their skates on.

I also sent an angry email to them this week :) I had previously said I would NEVER order from them again because of issues with delayed deliveries, awful customer service etc. But then last week I was just browsing lots of sites and saw a lovely blazer on their UK site that was reduced to half price. I was about to order it the day the feckin Euro site went live, so was redirected to that when I went onto it. The blazer was the same, 50% off the Euro price. I didn't get a chance to go about ordering it until later that evening after they sent email about "Sale! 15% off first order!". The blazer was back up at full price, nice way to conduct a sale lads.

So I emailed to complain that basically it was just sneaky to do things like that for a sale. 6 days later I got some nonsense reply about prices varying between in store and online, I had never mentioned shopping in store at all, what a cop out. Told them they've definitely lost a customer now, the slow reply and crap answer sealed it for me, the bargains aren't worth the hassle.

On another forum a lot of girls are having serious hassle having returns refunded also.

Crap really? :( I sent two dresses back this week. The website does say 28 days for refund so it's a pretty long time, I hope there's no hassle though!!

This is the response I am after getting, not a happy bunny:

"Thank you for your email received 24 November 2012.

We charge you for your order in Pounds Sterling. Your card provider will apply the exchange rate when your card is charged.

As the exchange rate will fluctuate regularly, we are unable to advise in advance how much your card issuer will charge.

If there is anything further I can help with, please do not hesitate to contact me by replying to this email address."

What was your complaint? If it was about the new euro site then that reply doesn't make any sense

I sent my complaint 2 days before you and I haven't heard back yet. A week ago now.

It was about the new Euro site and yeah, the reply doesn't make any sense. I sent them back another strongly worded e-mail.

This is not really about the Dorothy Perkins website but just to say that I ordered a lovely pair of gold platform heels in DP in Cork City a few weeks back - the girl in the shop ordered them cos they didn't have my size (but I tried on a different colour of the same shoe and knew they were ok) - she said they'd be in in about a week and she'd ring me when they arrived. Anyway a week passed and still heard nothing so happened to be in town the following saturday so said I'd drop in to see if they had come - the girl said they still hadn't come and that maybe I'd be better off ordering them online so I said I would - of course when I went to order them online my size wasn't there either so went back to the shop and she said that they still hadn't come in and that the only thing I could do would be to ring their stores in Limerick or Killarney and if they had them I'd have to TRAVEL to collect them as they wouldn't send them onto the Cork store - isn't that ridiculous?!

But what I really want to know is what happened to the shoes that the girl ordered for me first day - why weren't they delivered? I really loved them too :-(

On their back office system, you can 'request' an item to be picked and added to the store's delivery. if it's not available in the warehouse on the next picking date, the store wont get the delivery.

When the next delivery came in the store person should have checked the last page of the delivery docket for customer orders, if the item wasnt there, they should have called you and told you it wasnt available.

I can only presume the system is still the same as it always was, its a long time since I worked with Arcadia.

I replied to DP the other day saying

"You do not charge for my order in Pounds Sterling. Clearly you do not understand the e-mail I previously sent.

Your new Euro website which is only available to Irish customers is in Euros. The prices of the items on your Euro website are higher than the prices of the items on the UK website.

It has nothing got to do with my card provider nor exchange rates. You are simply charging your Irish customers more for the exact same products. It is unfair.

I want my concerns addressed properly by return."

    And I received this reply:

"Thank you for your email received 28 November 2012.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have passed your comments on to our Internet and buying team for feedback.

If there is anything further I can help with, please do not hesitate to contact me by replying to this email address."

    And nothing since.

I actually got a blank email back from them after my last email querying their nonsensical reply.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭Duberlin Chick

I completed the 'query' form on their website with a question re returns and a complaint of terrible customer service in December with regard to this return. They replied the following day answering the returns query which was ONE line of a rather large email and ignored the customer service scenario. I responded to them immediately regarding this 'oversight' on their behalf.

Today I received an email to say that they could not locate my original mail and could I re send it. I submitted it originally in their 'query form' section and I've no idea why but I copied and pasted it all into a word doc 'just in case'. Thank god! Probs hoping I just wouldn't bother typing it again.

Anyways, I await the next response and will never spend another cent online or Instore.
