2 sources, 1 Speaker

Is it possible to drive a set of speakers from 2 different sources?

My bedroom has 4 wall mounted speakers for the hi-fi system, already placed in the 4 corners of the room. The wires are hidden behind the wall etc

I also have an LG all-in-one dvd/amp that I would like to use in the room.

What do I need to do to be able to use the same set of speakers from two different sources?

I have it in my head that if I just join the two sources together onto the speaker wire, voltage/power would pass back from the originating system into the inactive system and cause damage (if you follow).

    Any thoughts?

What's in your head is correct, you risk damaging the inactive system this way.

Maybe some form of speaker switcher is what's needed ?

Another option - very risky if you're any way absent minded or if you have someone else using the system, is if the amplifiers have speaker selector switches. Most will have an A - B - A+B - OFF selector. In the OFF position the terminals should be disconnected isolating the amplifier. Of course both systems will need to have this selector switch option for this to work. Wouldn't recommend this though, big risk of forgetting.
