I was gonna put this in the Motors thread but thought it'd be better here..

I'm just wonderin does anybody know wether Gardai CCTV cameras that are in local areas like say housing estates actually take photos?

It's just I was driving around late the other night and just wanted to get home, I was waiting at traffic lights that I know take ages so I creeped out to make sure noone was coming and broke the red light:o:( There is a little white camera on top of a huge poll and underneath it a sign says 'Gardai CCTV' I was just wondering do these cameras catch you breaking red lights? I could have sworn the dam thing flashed at me?

traffic management cameras or cameras just keeping an eye on the area for trouble.

i doubt they are for that.

there are red light cameras in dublin city but they are very noticeable

it's in Ballyfermot, Cherry orchard Dublin 10. I'm not sure the name of the road itself though

Its not a traffic light camera anyway, they are being trialled in Dublin 7.

That camera is Garda CCTV, not used for traffic purposes so very unlikely they will come after you. The only way that would happen was if the operator was watching it at the time and bothered to report it.

Cherry Orchard? You sure someone wasn't shooting at the camera and you saw the muzzle flash?

Seeing that you were thinking of breaking the red light, maybe the flash you seen was just a fast flash reflection from a street light on the window-screen or side windows ?. it's possible.

No lads there was defo a flash off this camera, it blinded me sure:p and it was pointed directly at my car as I drove towards it..

It's unlikely it was a traffic camera or anything like that cause I have looked around and there is a good few of them in all the estates around here..

Be intresting to see if I get anything through the door now..

Well in that case i'd say they have your reg number and will probably do a reg check on you but i'd doubt they will fine you as it is not a traffic camera, they will more than likely see if you are any known criminal up to no good. I wouldn't worry about it.

Really? Thats odd, the RPA are the ones responsible for the trial so I assumed they would only be at Luas junctions

The gardai and Dublin City Council are also partly running the trial.
