Took a trip to Ian in Aquatic Village to pick up some coral sand. Ended up shooting the breeze with for an hour.
Got the 50KG of sand home and rinsed and into the tank and commenced filling:

Upon plumbing the tank, i realised that i left the pipework to connect the return pump to the outlet in Sligo so i could only fill to this level until i figure out what to do :(

    More photos coming soon :)

Looks great. Did you put a base mat between the tank and stand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭7ofBrian

    no...
I know 2 people with the same tank and they havent either. Probably not necessary with this one?

I have two of these. Was there not a little sticker on the front glass saying a base mat must be used or it voids your warranty?

On the likes of juwel or eheim aquariums you have a floating base. On this it's just glass on wood. It may not make much of a difference.

Bought it second hand so no labels. I hope that since theres no gap between the wood and glass it should be ok...

That's the problem. You should never have glass sitting directly on wood. There should be a sheet of polystyrene or something sitting between the two.

Have you sorted your tropheus yet?

I've a group of about 15-20 bemba if you are interested. I'm thinking of trying another tropheus.

+1..if you've got 500 kilos of water pressing down even a grain of sand can crack the base of the tank.

Well lets pray to poseidon that there'll be no problems!

A rubber base mat is only 5 euro in any aquariam shop.

A large sheet of 20mm thick white polystyrene is only 1 euro in a builders providers.

You MUST use a sheet or either under the tank.

Are you not taking up a good bit of tank space with all the rockwork like that?

    Does look well though.

Im so jealous! Always fancied myself a Tropheus set- up. :)

Nicely done I have to say.

This is probably most likely stating the obvious but if you have adult males in the tank try to space the rock in 'rock piles' for each of them, at least a foot apart- this will allow males to occupy a territory, which they will want to do.

Also, once youve decided on layout, rock position- dont suddenly decide to change it. :)

Someday Ill have a tank like that, someday... Well done. :)
