Time to send that tux to the dry-cleaners, prepare your "what? me? but I wasn't expecting this..." speech and stuff the brown envelope for the adjudicators (me :D ) because it's boards awards time again.

    The categories -

    Poster of the year
    Performance of the year
    Thread of the year
    Race of the year
    Training log of the year
    Photo of the year
    New poster of the year
    Race report of the year

    The results

    Poster of the year.
    1. Krusty Clown
    2. ecoli
    3. Younganne

Mentoring? Yeah, very good. Training plans for everyone? Sure, nice job
But what we really want is someone who can make our watches work :)
(and write a brilliant training log, be one of the best performers in the forum across all distances, pace other runners to personal bests, be unfailingly helpful to all posters... )

    Performance of the year

    1. Bazman in Dublin
    2. claralara in Longford
    3. myflipflops in Melbourne and claralara in Berlin

Third place on the podium shared between myflipflops for his 2.48 marathon debut in Melbourne, and claralara for her 3.08 in Berlin, an improvement of 40 minutes from Dublin last year.
Second place goes to claralara for her winning half marathon in Longford, sub-88 minutes (and yes, if her vote wasn't split one of her performances would have won)
First place goes to Bazman for his fantastic run in the Dublin marathon, sub 2.20 and 14th overall. I think that time puts him just outside the all-time Irish top 50 (he ran faster in Hanover), and probably inside the Irish top 50 in Irish races.

    Thread of the year

    1. Dublin Marathon Novices Mentored Thread
    2. The sub-3 support thread
    3. Renato Canova's training ideas

Second and third positions reflect the growing number of people in this forum knocking out good marathon times, and the high level of discussion that follows.
The Novices Mentored Thread won by a landslide though. 30? 40? more? people posting in the thread, most of them quite new to the forum and running, all learning a lot from Younganne and her many assistants who dropped by over the year, and more than 6000 posts

    Race of the year

    1. Dublin marathon
    2. Dublin/New York marathon
    3. Bohermeen 5k/Ballycotton 10

Another landslide, the Dublin marathon really is the big one

    Training Log of the Year

    1. Send in the Clowns - BAC 10k challenge
    2. But it's cold outside/The long road to Rotterdam 2014

And this year's winner of the Krusty Clown Send in the Clowns award is Krusty Clown Send in the Clowns! You would think such sustained brilliance would get boring, but it just gets better :)

    Photo of the Year

    2. Sloggerjogger - Croghan Kinsella

We will not speak of the winner, ever again.

    New Poster of the Year

    1. Pageant Messiah
    2. Ray Lanigan
    3. Myflipflops

myflipflops demonstrating that when you lose lots of weight, you really are a new man :)
Ray Lanigan for making the rest of us feel lazy
Pageant Messiah, for all his work on the running tracking sheets, for keeping his head and staying polite when we were queueing up to tell him he was a lunatic, and for proving us all wrong in the end

    Race Report of the Year

    1. Marthastew's NYC take 2
    2. Krusty's report of his 400m race
    3. Krusty's DCM/Marthastew's Berlin/Tunguska's national half

This was a pretty close vote with no more than 3 vote separating the entries, except for Marthastew's Dublin/New York race report which... oh, just go read it

and that's it, have a great break everyone :)

    :):):)

Thanks very much to all who voted me as New Poster Of The Year.

I've really enjoyed my first year in the running forums and made some great friends both online and offline. It really is a community to be proud of. The advice support and comradery here is truly exceptional which makes winning this award even better. Working on the running sheets is just me giving something back for everything I have gotten out of the forum. The cries of lunacy were always taken in the spirit they were intended which was concern for the noob who was determined to hospitalise himself mid marathon ;) And whilst I did make it to the end that doesn't mean I proved anyone wrong. :pac:

Thanks again folks. Merry Christmas to you all. See you in the new year for a proper crack at DCM and hopefully with an even bigger bunch of novices than this year along side me.

Very surprised to get the nod for performance of the year - board.ie members, including myself, obviously are fascinated with the marathon :)

    Let's hope I can improve a little in 2013 ...

Best of luck to everyone for the year ahead & hope everyone reaches their targets. If you put the work exceeding your targets will follow - the real question is how badly do you want it? :)
