I moved to Ireland from North America 22 months ago and just lost my job. I have been working full-time since I arrived and just have no idea what the chances are of my job seeker's getting accepted. They're doing the paper work now but I'm actually in panic mode as I've used my resources and can't afford to go home. I am constantly looking for work (in positions below. above and equal to what I know) and don't plan to be on assistance for more than a few weeks but at this rate I can barely afford to eat.

Any foreigners who have been in the country less than 2 years get approved?

Ya. 6 months. You need a lease and bank account. Pay close attention to your forms and fill everything out and have all the necessary paper work with you. Try to apply for everything and you can get emergency swa payment.

I've waited nearly 9 months, and then another 3 because I appealed the amount. In the meantime I was getting the SWA for which the rules aren't that strict.

I was on swa for a week and it's much more generous than jsb/jsa

Yes. Six months for me too. Bit of a struggle proving HRC (Habitual Residence Condition), but I did get it in the end.

I meant that I was only here for 6 months. It took me a week to get paid

The best thing to do is drop in to your local community welfare officer and see what they say.
