I usually have a few cans at home on Friday nights and have come across four cans of Heineken in the garage with the date 03/12. In light of the recent publicity about best before and use by dates i am a bit reluctant to drink them.Usually it wouldn't bother me but i hate wasting drink. Will probably go ahead and drink them and hopefully wont have any adverse affects.Has anyone ever drank beer this much out of date ?

    This comes up a lot.
It won't do you any harm.
It might taste a bit manky.
    Open, taste, decide.
    No danger.

The recent debate is about 'Best Before' dates against 'Use By' dates, two completely different things.

'Use By' means that its generally unsafe to consume the product after the advised date. Whereas 'Best Before' means that it's beyond its prime after the advised date.

I don't think there's a beer in the world that has a 'Use By' date.

I drank 8 bottles of bud lately, they were 11 months out of date. To be honest I didnt even know they were "gone off". It was at a christening and the father of the child had a few boxes of bud. I didn't know at the time but found out after that he and his mates were drinking the good stuff and he was giving us the gone off stuff on the sly!! But I didn't even notice tbh. I did have a bad hangover the day after but thats cos I had about 15 more of the good stuff!!! So go on........... DRINK IT!!!!!! :)

4 cans ? I've got almost 2 boxes of bottles of budweiser, not as long out of date as yours.

Well it means it might be unsafe after that date.
In reality its probably fine a couple of days after the date (depending on the item and storage)
There has to be a tolerance built in to allow for differences in batches etc.

Of course there's a bit of tolerance built in, it hardly explodes at the strike of midnight, but due care needs to be taken for a Use By date. Best Before on the other hand is a totally different kettle of fishy beer.

We don't give safety advice in the Food & Drink forums. OP - the final call on whether you consume the product or not is up to you & should not be based on any of the advice given in this thread.

    Closed.
