I have been offered a 6 month internship in a web marketing company and I am really not sure whether to take it or not. It will eventually be through the jobbridge programme as I haven't been claiming for 3 months yet. Was just wondering if get some people's advice!

Here are some of the details of it:

As part of the role you would be involved in the web marketing of "X" and keeping you on board after the placement would be related to performance in terms of generating new leads/clients through activities you would be carrying out - emailers, blogging etc.
You would also be involved in client tasks with a prime focus on social networking, content plans, analytics, ppc eetc.

We work with a range of clients in all different areas.
We are a dynamic company with a very pleasant working environment. If you are ambitious and want to learn and grow with the business, are ready to take on a new challenge and work well as part of a young team

    Thanks.

Translation - you salesman - you crap salesman you be sacked. Well not sacked as we not employ you for six months.

Exactly the same as being on a probation period just paid at €50 per week.

This bit means - you'll be selling anything and everything - bit like a web based Delboy.

Dynamic means expect to work late and be given more work than yo can possibly do in a working day. Pleasant working environment means they open a window now and again and the place probably has a carpet.

The next sentence means that if you make enough sales you might one day be offered a small pay rise.

Young Team means we burn people out and they go and find better jobs.

Or it could just mean what they say - who knows. If you've nothing else on why not suck it and see.

Do it for a week or two and see how you get on. But doesn't sound great tbh

unfortunately a lot of companies are using internships do fill their marketing roles as they don't want to pay for it but don't want to do all the tedious tasks themselves. if you haven't even been on the dole three months, you might be better off looking for paid work until you at least have the three months, as there will be plenty of these marketing internships available under jobbridge if you still want to do one, and you'll at least be getting your extra 50 quid. if the company cant even give you the 50 euro then you'll be out of pocket doing this job if you have to pay for transport/work clothes.

having done a similar internship myself, after 3 months i really resented being made to work full time for free alongside other paid employees, and most importantly i didn't think i was really learning any special skills that would make me more employable. your experience might be different but in mine i was just given the crap work no one else wanted to do (even though they got paid and i didn't.) i also had doubts that this company would ever take me on, i think it is usually just a carrot they dangle to keep you working when they really only intend to get another intern after you go. i've spoken to other people who had a similar experience - after a few weeks your training stops and your just an unpaid worker.

probably similar to yourself, i thought i would be happy to work unpaid if i was learning, but that enthusiasm quickly faded. i suppose the main thing to ask yourself is, do you think this internship will help you get off the dole (ie: will you get really good training and do they really intend to keep you on if you do well)?

like a previous poster suggested, you could try it for a week or two and see how you get on, since it isn't under jobbridge at the start there shouldn't be any paperwork problems if you decide not to stay on at that point. however, DON'T sign any contract or agreement at the start, wait until you know if you want to stay on, and until the internship is actually under jobbridge, as they give you a standard contract. because you aren't available for work and interviews while doing an unofficial internship and that would technically disqualify you from the dole. if there is no contract in place than you would still be available to take on any paid work that you were offered. also, make it clear to the company that you are still job-seeking and may need time off for interviews, etc. it is stipulated in the jobbridge contract that you are allowed time off for jobseeking activities and if you need to go to your social welfare local office, but my host company still gave me a problem with that which is another reason i left.

I hate the word Jobbridge and all it stands for which is basically - work for nothing and be treated as s**t:mad:
