Transporting cats from Galway to Dublin (any services?)

    Hi,

As a new poster on this forum I'm hoping this doesn't run afoul of the charter (I read it quickly). We're looking to move 3 cats from Galway to Dublin and don't have access to transport so I'm wondering if anyone has used some form of moving service they'd recommend? Most sites in Google searches return international pet removal services. In the past we've benefited from family & friends but it's a big ask and not currently convenient for anyone. We have carriers for each of the cats and they've traveled reasonably well (i.e. not sick and re-adjusted well either side) recently.

As far as I know you can bring cats in carrier on the train once no one else in the carriage objects and they do not take up a seat, I could be wrong but I think I remember seeing that somewhere before!

I saw that mentioned on the IrishRail website but we're one lap short for 3 cats :)

could you get two cats in one crate, perhaps a slightly larger one than you current have? I have once seen a person leave a westie in a crate in the baggage rack at the end of the carriage . So perpahps you could leave them all there and put a cover over them so they wont get distressed.

If it were my cats they'd be yowling loudly the entire journey, and at least one would puke.
I wouldn't trust them to a moving company though, they might be left to slide around in the back. What about bribing a friend with a car? Or hiring one if it comes to that?

    hey all,

we brought our kittens in a carrier on Irish rail last weekend.. we just placed the carrier under the table and put a blanket over the top of them... they are good travellers though... hope you get sorted

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I don't think the train is a good idea, one of ours is particularly nervous (no idea why, he has been like that from a kitten) and I really do think it would upset him far too much. That in turn would lead to loud yowling which I'm sure would lead to complaints or train staff taking the initiative to ask us to remove them. I'll have a look at the suggestion from mc155.
