Picking furniture to match a walnut floor

    Hi there!
Just in the process of buying a new house. We've chosen American Walnut style floor for the living room which isn't as dark/dull as regular walnut but we're stuck on what furniture to put with it (ie: coffee table/ tv unit etc). We already have the couches which have creams/ beiges/ mustardy colours in them, and are probably going to put in an ash wooden beam mantel over the stove (cause we don't particularly like the darker ones).
Some say go bright, some say dark dark. We don't want to match it but aren't quite sure which extreme to go!
    Help! Thanks

    Hiya,
We have the same American walnut flooring throughout the ground floor apart from kitchen diner and all the doors, architrave and skirting is painted Colour Trend Almost white. If the finish on the rest of the room is bright ( paint, curtains, rugs, light fittings) then you can defo go with walnut finish on your occasional furniture. It is fairly easy to pick up walnut pieces to complement the flooring without having to go too far afield. We just ordered the mode TV unit from next and the colour is really good with the floor.

    Hiya,
Am based in Cork so ordered from their homestore here but if you go to their Irish site you can order from there too, it's€5 for delivery. We bought my daughters bed from them a couple of years ago and the quality is perfect. Have you decided on your colour scheme?

I have solid walnut too and have mixed and matched cream and dark furniture throughout my place. I have a "walnut" effect dining table and dark TV unit with a cream coffee table. Walls are a champagne colour, with purples and lime greens in the sitting room. Works well i think.

I have walnut floors also. I have gone with white gloss/walnut tv unit etc from Next. Mode shelves for the walls, like the previous poster said, the mode matches very well with alot of the walnut type floors but I mixed it up with the white gloss.
    Happy Shopping :D

    @ pinky:
€5 - amazing! Great stuff on their site thanks so much for directing me there. Love their bed linen too. Yes we have decided on a colour scheme... one couch is cream with pillow backs in mixed colours matching the other couch. The other one is in a traditional pattern of sort of cappuccino brown, beige, and a subtle mustardy colour. So given the loud pattern the curtains will probably be neutral enough along with walls (but rich). Inset stove with black granite hearth and an ash wooden beam mantel.

@ Anniehoo - sounds pretty funky! Love it! We just got a giant Big Bertha olive green bean bag too which will throw a little green in the mix and are hoping to get a rug with similar colours of the couches but with a splash of red - sort of oriental. I love the idea of cream and dark walnut occasional furniture....

    @nemo:
Again, love the idea of mixing it up. I saw the gloss and liked it but wasn't sure if it would tie in with the traditional looking furniture. So maybe a compromise of ivory maybe and walnut....cool! Thanks guys :)

A rug is what I would've suggested. It 'grounds' your furniture as it were.

Seems like you have it al sorted with great colours of your sofa and green bean bag
Post a pic when it's finished.:)

Just another tip I picked up: If there is anything in Laura Ashley you like the store in Belfast will deliver anywhere in Rep for £6.50. Sign up for their email so you will know when stuff goes on sale and even if the exchange rate is crap it's still way cheaper. Best of luck with you project
