I spotted Woodies in Sallynoggin selling a load of Philips 11w bayonet (equivalent 50w), 10 year, 600lm, Warm White bulbs for €0.69/peice.

    Thought it was great value...

Very reliable bulb I have found well worth the price.

You can thank her majesties government for forcing electricity suppliers to subsidise them in vast quantities until last year and thank the uk citizens for paying for it through bill hikes of a few percent :D

Yeah, I fitted out my house last year with stacks of them for a euro a go, they had a EON label that was covered up by the gang who were selling the bulbs.

One thing about 11w bulbs though, they are a bit dim so I wouldn't use them as a solo light for a whole room, grand for lamps though.

It that case stump up €2 for 20W bulbs when you are in Woodies.

Thanks, picked up 5 of them in Nenagh for €3.45. It is a bargain.

These have been very reliable for me for nearly 3 years now. Great bargain and excellent to leave as a light on when going out without chewing through electricity.

Do they light up straight away or do they take a while?

I was actually quite surprised at how quick they lit up - would have thought it was straight away with little or no warming period...

Full brightness in around 20-25 seconds.

The instant light off them is good enough.:)

I got 3 for my girlfriends dads house.

My own house is all LED.

Woodies also do an Osram 0.3W LED/8W CFL combo for a little over €2

Leave it in 0.3W mode for nightlight / passageways.

Much better than old ones if thats what you're thinking, on in 0.2s and brighten up quickly.

Are they ES only or bayonet too?

    How does that work then?

You flick the light switch and it goes from CFL mode down to LED mode?????

Yep if you leave it off for 5s or more it defaults to light mode, I have an ancient cfl 'computer bulb' that does the same except instead of led it switches between low wattage and high wattage mode.

We should ban ES they are the work of the devil.

    The Atlantic ones are bayonet.

If you have ES remember to retighten them every few months as bulb life can be drastically shortened if it makes a dodgy contact.
