What's the best website to purchase american stocks. I'll will be investing a very samll amount (5000$) into a one single stock that I will probably keep for over one year or so (not sure if that's a buy&hold). In the next 5/6 months I might purchase a simi;ar amount of another stock.

I was suggested InteractiveBrokers but you need at least 10k$ to open an account.

    Any tips?

    Thanks

Welcome Jessica, Zecco is your answer, $4.95 per transaction irrespective of size.

Thank you CuteHoor - I'm checking it out: Zecco no longer accepting new account application. Apparently they will merge with Tradeking and you have to open the account with Tradeking.

Is it still advisable to use this service?

Oops I forgot the merger, I think Tradeking have the same terms & conditions so it's probably still the one to go with - check it out though.

Unfortunately it's only for US residents...any other suggestion?

Oh dear, Zecco was open to all nationalities.
OK I'm going to suggest TDAmeritrade, $9.99 per trade (but you can trade the first 60 days for free), hopefully they still take Irish clients.

Got up and running with TDAmeritrade, easy to open, it took about a week between online application, posting the paperwork required and wiring the founds.

It's very simple to use even for a novice with real time tutorials on everything.

    Thank you for the tip.

RIMM - it went up already by a great deal in the last 2/3 weeks but I think it will still go up at least to 20$. At the end of January they will announce the new devices and new mobile platform and they seem to sit on enough cash to deliver it.
