Hi guys. I've a Hitachi EX15 Mini Digger that's leaking a little hydraulic oil down underneath, through the slew gear. Does anybody know if it's worthwhile to lift off the body, and replace whatever seals, etc., that might be worn. Is it very difficult to do, and can I do all the dismantling from underneath. I would have all the gear to do it. Any advice and help appreciated. Thanks.

If it is the slew motor, and it's only leaking a bit, buy some sunglasses and a few gallons of hydraulic oil. Use the sunglasses so you don't see the weep, and the oil to keep it topped up. Or else pull the machine apart and fix it. I'd go for the sunglasses and oil.:)

If I was going to pull it apart, how do I go about it. Can I do all the dismantling from underneath, and lift off the body? Any pointers would be appreciated.

I only have experience of the bigger one's from 100's up and they are done from both top and bottom. The ring gear itself doesn't have any oil in it so doesn't need to be touched,it's only to get out and open the slewing motor and replace the seals if they are gone.

The only thing I'd be checking first before taking out the motor is to make sure the oil is not coming from a pipe connected to the motor itself,or if you can physically see where it is coming out of by getting under it and inspecting.

Hope that helps in some way.Couldn't tell you how to take it out without seeing where it is located on that machine.

same as that, some of the smaller machines are really tight to get into and a lot has to come off to get at the slewmotor, never been near an ex15, so don't know.
