Fireplace covers and chimney dampers

    Hi All,

We have two antique fireplaces in an old house where there are no room vents. We want to reduce the draw of the chimneys when our central heating is on.

We've seen a chimney damper product and also an acrylic box made to fit over the fireplace but not of the correct size.

We don't want to put up balloons as we want to be able to vent the rooms through the fireplaces during the day rather than open windows (security etc).

Has anyone experience of the chimney damper (Chimney Draught Stop) or a fireplace cover (the acrylic box is available in the UK) or any other ideas available in Ireland. We had heard that a company in Waterford made fireplace covers but could not get any details.

We like the idea of not fitting anything inside the chimney.

    All info gratefully accepted. :)
