Question about time travelling

Hi!

Serious question,

Old type time machines seems to travel back in time with time traveller (with time machine user)
e.g like dr. Emmett Brown time machine or Stewie older version time machine.

However,

Wristband time machine device (more modern time machine model) will be with you all the time regardless where ever you go.

Should stand alone " step-in type " time machine travel in time with time machine user or it is practically impossible?
Perhaps you should wear wristband time machine when using old type timo just in case if old timo does not travel with you ( you dont want to be stuck in time, doh)

Also

Does travelling back in time uses same amount of fuel as travelling to the future or less/more ( cost effective travelling )
