Fabia estate 1.2

Changing cars soon and I am thinking of getting one of these specifically for the space in the boot so that I can take the dog places without the back seat being ruined. Anyone have any experience with them, I would imagine that despite claims by sellers they are a dog on petrol, they must be way too heavy for that engine? Seems to be some nice, clean ones around, for decent prices, would be spending in the region of €3k, anything I should look out for? Any issues?

We have a 2002 1.4 fabia estate, good on juice for ours but not sure on 1.2. Serious money gone into parts last year approaching 100000 miles all little things but was costly. Power steering unit gave up at 100000 miles, very dangerous led to an accident. Alternator was bollixed at one stage as far as I can remember. 1.4 is fine little car to drive though, massive space.

It struggles to pull the hatch.... An estate wouldn't be fun. Engine is prone to blowing coils.

I thought so, might give a look at the 1.4 or the 1.4 diesel then, will try and drive a few to get a good idea of what I will be looking at, fuel economy is the most important thing, not looking to win any races.

Thanks Chuck, the only one I would really consider would be the rio, only need a very small estate no kids, just a big dog, and really can't justify the higher tax etc. What really puts me off with the rio though is the interior, it's horrible!

The corolla is far superior though and the tax isn't that much more (€120 per year)

I get that but I was hoping to go up a couple of years to avoid the yearly NCT.

Must say, all things being equal, I'd much prefer the Corolla too. What size is the wolf?

A big Boxer, sometimes go on long journies so would like to have a good big of space, back seat of the polo is ruined anytime I take him anywhere. I suppose a good sized hatch would do as well though.

Yeah he'd need a bit of space for the long journeys.

Something like the below would be perfect for you and your hound imo.

The Honda Jazz has seats that fold flat in one movement which leaves loads of useful space in the back - a bit of rubber backed carpet in the back and the dog would be in his element.

    They're good on fuel too.

Thanks for that, great boot space for a hatch.
Just out of curiosity would I be mad to go for this, http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4207231, have always thought they were good looking cars! Cheap for diesel too.

Wouldn't know too much about them tbh.

Maybe the more knowledgeable lads would give you a heads up on them.

    Good luck with your search!

Thanks, having looked at them on parkers and honest John I don't think I will go there, the jazz is quite high up of my shortlist now, gets great reviews everywhere, my sister has a 206 hatchback, don't think I will show her what I found ;)

Just as an fyi OP Lidl do pet specials about twice a year which have covers for the backseat of your car to protect them, that hang off the front seat.

It'd cover a fair bit of the back of that Jazz.
