I'm travelling to Cardiff next February for a weekend (Friday to Sunday)
Have never been there before, maybe somebody here can help me

Need to organise it soon. Was looking today and the only flights i can see are with Aer Lingus from Dublin?

Is this the only option or am i missing something?

    I'm based in Cork

Yeh, this is the best way, about an hours wait in Fishguard for the train to Cardiff Central, Stena Line. only costs €45.00 one way to London so Cardiff will be even cheaper.

Fly to bristol from Dublin or maybe from cork, get bus to cardiff

Flying Cork to Bristol might be the answer. If i go from Cork i can get a lift to airport, if flying from Dublin i'd have to pay for leaving car in airport car park for 3 days plus driving Cork to Dublin.

Flights slightly dearer from Cork but would save by not having to use car park

don't be put off by the train and ferry , its a brilliant service!

    http://www.seat61.com/Ireland.htm

    http://www.irishferries.com/ie/sailrail.asp

quick look prices it at around €130 return.

I use the service regularly , much better than flying if you have the time to enjoy it

What day/time do you have to be there by? What day/time do you have to stay to?

The bus from bristol to cardiff is fine , from memory about an hour or so. If travelling from cork to dublin airport there is a good service with aircoach for 20 euros return. Takes about 3 hours -4 hours. A boat would be madness i for a weekend especially since you would have to get to rosslare/dublin for starters

I'm from Cork, lived in Cardiff for two years. Aer Arann had a Cork to Cardiff route when I lived there but I think the route has been discontinued. Your best bet is to fly to Bristol. You can get a bus from Bristol airport to Temple Meads which is the train station in Bristol. You can jump on the train to Cardiff from there. The train is about a tenner and takes about an hour. That's what my Irish friends living in Cardiff did anyway.

Train & Boat is quicker. Get the bus from Cork to Rosslare and there are 2 Stena sailings per day. You can get a Sail Rail ticket in Rosslare cheaply (38.00 or so) and go from Fishguard. Irish Ferries do not have Sail Rail from Pembroke and from Fishguard there is a direct service to Cardiff. It will bring you right into the centre. Better for the environment too

i'd fly to bristol also. the bus service is outside the door of the airport and the train around an hour.

if you were to fly to cardiff you would have to travel to dublin and travel 12 miles from cardiff airport to the city anyway. easy for me as i have done it many times but i'd rather be flying home to my local airport than another one
