Going to head along also for a while after work. Contemplating moving club this year to cut down on travel time so interested to see what the different clubs have to offer.

Was good fun last night. Hopefully will become an annual event and will get busier. Perhaps a little earlier in the year (Sept) would help. Some cracking prizes given out. Pretty sure every club gave something away so over 80 prizes. Worth the trip in for guys just to enter the comp!

Any use to you? Any decisions made?

As Tin Cup says, it was good fun, and there was a great atmosphere. I just thought the attendance was steady as opposed to spectacular. Most of the clubs I spoke to said they hadn't heard or seen much promotion behind the event.

I wasn't able to attend but heard nothing about it apart from this thread.

It was useful but no decisions made. Spoke with Killeen Castle, Luttrellstown and Roganstowns as they're the main contenders in terms of quality and ease of access but are considerably more expensive than my current location. Furthermore their membership numbers and competition choice is not ideal with Roganstown possibly having the best options available.
Other clubs I would have been interested in listening too include BlackBush, Hollystown and possibly Elm Green but were not present last night so there's plenty yet to mull over but last night definitely was a start in terms of weighing up options.

In terms of the evening I was on site from around 18:15 to 19:15 and although there was a large attendance from golf clubs around the country I thought the attendance from the general public was poor. Not sure what if anything the different golf clubs and displays got out of the evening especially given the distance alot of them had to travel. As mentioned above the promotion behind the event seemed to be non existent and similarly had heard nothing about it apart from this thread.

Not sure what prizes were given out, there was one presentation made while I was there at around 19:00 but other than that didn't notice much else. The welcome bag was something of a damp squib with only a Failte Ireland magazine inside.

    Hi Folks,

I dropped in last night about 8:00 and like the previous threads I only found oot about it via this thread.

The footfall was very low but saying that there was lots of prizes on offer ranging from 4 balls to weekends away and Lisheen falls gave away a 5 day membership for 2013. I managed to walk away with a fourball so it was worth the visit.

Overall I think it was badly advertised and if it was to become an annual thing I think they should maybe merge it with the Golf Digest top 100 courses which I think are out on Friday 30th. That would attract the exhibitors and generate the media attention an event like this needs.

Joined Roganstown myself a couple of weeks ago. A couple of things i will say about it that it is very dry for all the rain we have had and they play full greens and tees thru the winter no temps. There are plenty of comps google Roganstowngc for the fixture list plus there is the open on Tuesday so 4 comps a week during the summer.
This year they are giving free membership of the leisure club with the membership so that is a bonus if you go to the gym or swim or would like a sauna or steam after a round.
The members get 150 off for every new member they introduce so if you know anyone there you could do a deal with them the guy i knew gave us 100 back.

Hi Dr C, were there any incentives being offered on the night for 2013 membership?
I was hoping to get there myself but couldn't make it, I don't suppose anyone has the lowdown on what the deal was with Lucan?

No incentives, well nothing above any of the offers mentioned on the websites of the clubs I spoke to. Regarding Luttrellstown I received a text from them a few weeks back stating that they were dropping their membership to €1,700 + Vat but the representative last night advised that was an introductory offer if recommended by an existing member and that their full membership was still €2,000 + Vat.
Never spoke to Lucan Golf Club but my understanding is that their membership is in the region of €1,600 with an additional €250 Bar/Restaurant levy. Not sure if they have an introductory or referral offer but Benicetomonty on here is a member I believe so he should be able to advise if you send him a pm.

Really don't like the way L'town use the VAT exclusive price when promoting it. Who are they kidding.

I know a member there if any is looking for a recommendation.

What do Killeen castle offer in terms of members comps? Have they much/any flexibility on price?

Member weekend comps have generally historically been on a Sat and entry fee is a hefty €10 which includes 2's. The representative present at the presentation advised that with an influx of new members this year they hope to hold more regular competitions on the Sun also which previously has been a quiet enough day both in terms of members comps and green fees.
In addition to the weekend comp they hold an invitational comp on a Wed where members can bring a guest for a €30 green fee which proves very popular and generally sells out.

Full membership was €2,000 inclusive of Vat but exclusive of fees and levies. Fees were a club Levy of €50, GUI fees of €20 and optional Golfsure Insurance of €20. There was also an optional annual range ball card for €100.
There didn't seem to be any willing flexibility on price but then again I didn't push him on price, I wasn't going to sign up there and then. He did say the current rates were down from €2,750 I think and hence "good value". There wasn't any offers of a complementary green fee to come and try out the course when I told him I hadn't previously played it but he did say on learning that I would be at Foregolf the following week to give him a call and if it was quiet he might be able to get me out for a few holes.

Upon reflection I'd have to be able to get the under 30s membership for €1,000 to seriously consider joining. The predominant Sat comps are not ideal and the entry fees are quite expensive when you add on travel time and costs. Two years ago when I might have been barely eligible for the under 30s membership they had a "special offer" of a €5,000 entry fee and hence why I went elsewhere.

Thanks for the info. I bought some gear from Fore Golf recently and was given a free green fee voucher when I collected the clubs... Kileen is a magnificent course, although 2k is very much on the expensive side. Im still <just> eligible for the under 30's deal so I might be enticed to give it a go, it really is a super track....
