Skagen watches

I think there's been a thread about them recently if you have a quick look.

I know you're not looking for feedback on the looks - but I'll chip in all the same. 38mm is verging towards the smaller side for a man's watch, plus I think that Skagen watches tend to be quite light and don't wear very high. This might not be a great choice if himself likes watches that stand out.

For that price range, I'd also look at Seiko. Robust, good value and a massive range.

I wear a Skagen watch, and have had it for about 7 years. I love it, but then I did choose it myself so I should want to! It's an older version of this: http://www.skagen.com/en_US/shop/mens/mens_watches/grey_titanium_mesh_men_s_watch-233lttmp.html?departmentCategoryId=&N=4294960418+4294963948&Nf=p_min_price%7CBTWN+0+325&pn=c&rec=1&imagePath=233LTTM , without the numbers.

In terms of observation, it's very light on the wrist, and particuarly slim. I wanted a simple watch that was only as big as it needed to be, and not a bit more. I think it's extremely cool in a quiet confident way, and would be pained to change it.

It has a painted (looks like enamelled) black finish, that has rubbed off with use. Most people would find this offputting, as it looks scrappy, but I consider it evidence of adventure... I notice the newer watch appears to be just titanium, with no paint, so it seems they've addressed that.

Interestingly, it never sets off airport xray scanners, as titanium is quite a light metal

The original spring/bars bent quite easily, and not from excessive tightness - just weak design. I returned the watch under warranty (Harvey Nichols in Dundrum), and six weeks later it returned with new bars. They also failed, when I was living abroad, and I brought it to a jeweller, who put in bars -5 years later they're going strong. Poor material choice by Skagen, so be aware - maybe this has been addressed.

I broke the glass on a building site about 2 years ago when I banged into a half finished wall -watch hit a corner of block straight on, but no problems with getting the glass replaced (albeit with some minor scuffs on the face - adventorous ageing again...

Hope this helps you in your choice - I'd recommend them, but do look at one in reality first.

Whenever I see Skagen watches they are particularly a thin design.
