In 1948 a rule was brought in saying all gloves worn in professional bouts must be 8 oz or more. It's possible it wasn't always adhered to though. Of course now the rule is 8 oz up to 147, then for 154lbs and up its 10 oz gloves. So modern day heavyweights wear 10 oz gloves. Marciano is probably wearing 8 oz gloves in that vid which look small on a heavyweight.

I know up to the 1940's many bouts were fought with 6 oz gloves.

I am sick of watching fights with lower weight guys who "seem" to be wearing pillows for gloves. I'd wonder are those gloves up to 147 lbs really 8 ounces?

Dempsey and Louis at times wore 6 oz gloves. Sore!
