Hi I have a new laptop where the wireless keeps dropping,to reconnect I have to disconnect the router for 10 secs and go again until the signal drops I have to do this at least 7-8 times a day.i brought it to the place I bought it and they can't seem to find anything wrong with it,every other laptop in the house is fine.i googled the problems and appears its not only me who has problems with the wireless card.iv tried disabling power management settings and it works until I shut down or restart the pc,any suggestions or is the laptop faulty???

Create a bootable usb stick with a lightweight Linux distro on it (see www.pendrivelinux.com) Boot from the USB and try browsing and see if the connection holds.

If it does then the problem is Windows 8 if it doesn't then the problem is hardware.

As a matter of interest what wireless card is in the machine?

I'm the exact same, giving Eircom a ring now and seeing if they can help me.

I rang Eircom and they couldn't do anything for me, they said they will send out a new modem and to see if that works, guess i'll just have to wait and see.

I've noticed this problem on a few of my floor demos but havent had any time to resolve it, nor rule out a dozen other factors: there are roughly 5 APs in the building and at least 100 devices connected at any given time. In addition our internet tunnels (somehow) directly to company HQ in Minessota, from South Carolina (or at least that is where our IP addresses are issued from). We also have them all running Demo software and not every laptop seems to like that the same as the others. So your guess is as good as mine but I'll be watching this space.

I've noticed if it sleeps the wifi will sleep and takes 15 seconds to refresh and reconnect.

Anyone ever find a solution to this? Having the same problem know it's not the laptop as just moved house and it was fine with UPC in my old house, also my phone and brothers laptop work fine with the Eircom connection in the house so it's obviously a windows 8/Eircom combination problem.

Don't want to ring tech support cause I've found them to be useful in the past!
