The Ideal Man and Marriage

I recent read an article on Mitt Romney on Vanity Fair.

    http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/02/mitt-romney-201202

I think that Mitt serves as a role model for how to treat ones wife. Several examples are notable from the article.

For example, according to the Romney's son Tagg: “We were not allowed to say anything negative about my mother, talk back to her, do anything that would not be respectful of her.”

Also, Mitt had put Ann on a pedestal and kept her there. “When they were dating,” Tagg said, “he felt like she was way better than him and he was really lucky to have this catch. He really genuinely still feels that way.”

Finally, Tagg also said it’s not that his parents never disagree. “I know there are things that she says that he doesn’t agree with sometimes, and I see him kind of bite his tongue. But I know that they go and discuss it in private. He doesn’t ever contradict my mother in public.” Similarly, friends of the Romneys’ back up that account, saying they cannot recall Mitt ever raising his voice toward Ann

These sound like the ingredients of a successful marriage.

    Do you agree?

He must be chock full o' bitterness, or she uses sex as a weapon.

Sounds more like Ann's a vicious woman behind closed doors. Ahh no, she sounds lovely. Maybe Mitt's right, he probably isn't fit to lick her boots, but then she does have lovely boots..

Mitt and Tagg, sounds like a couple of incestuous gayboys

If anyone think's Mormons are some kind of role models on how to treat/relate to women then they need to do some research.

I mean they only gave up polygamy pretty recently. Women were/are treated like property.

As far as I know a womans role in the mormon church is to have kids and look after the home. They are encouraged to marry as soon as possible.

All men are considered "priests" in the church and are ordained while women are not. Men get to rise up the church hierarchy and women dont. I believe they worship separately too?

    Etc etc...

I think there's only a few other religions that treat women as badly as mormon's do.

So he takes her aside and sets her straight on things huh?

    Sounds creepy.

No, if man bite his tongue suppress his real feeling, that can only build resentment inside him. How he release this?

Real man must tell his wife what he feels, not bite his tongue and treat her like she is queen. He sounds like door mat maybe, this how you say.

I think happy marriage must be honesty about feelings and see each other equal and whipped cream in bedroom too maybe. I make joke.

    Secrets to a succesful marriage...respect?

Don't need Tagg to point that out. Would there be as much respect if Tagg turned out gay?

    Load of crap.

Well from what "tagg"(???) said it sounds like he "bites his tongue" in front of his kids, but then he takes her away and discusses it privately.

Just as dishonest I think. And what lesson for the kids? Respect her in public but let her know who's boss in private?

I wonder if he threatens her with getting more wives?

    :(

Mormons hold the threat of Excommunication over all their members.

If you're excommunicated your family wont even talk to you anymore. Which is a considerable threat. So you cant be gay, obviously thats a huge no-no.

Marriage (and procreation) is a Major deal to them. You are expected to marry quickly (early 20's) and start having kids, otherwise questions would be asked.

    No I disagree.

Primarily because the ideal woman or man is different for all.

It seems repressed and not a healthy way to express emotions.

I am not saying shout and show disrespect to each other.

But showing a healthy relationship where one shows healthy controlled anger or displeasure shows security.

Parents are meant to teach children how you deal with your emotions. And how to deal and acknowledge anger is a part of that. Bottling things up is not healthy.

To be honest part o the reason he is immoral in business is lack of emotion and repression.

And another thing.......I don't trust that any of this is not just spin.

Children should be respectful to both parents. And both partners should feel deserving of each other and treat each other respectfully.

I think that this is just PR..it might not reflect their lives....emotional repression leads to extreme behavior. It also leads to extreme lack of empathy and compassion.

Inside he probably feels short changed and bitter and not nourished.

Also this is just spin....an effort to tell Americans what the GOP thinks they want to hear.

What I have experienced in general is that not having a healthy respectful relationship and putting either the man or woman on a pedestal, is asking for trouble; if not straight away, then certainly down the line.

Even aside from the pedestal thing, the whole not disagreeing thing doesn't appeal to me. I don't dream of a relationship full of conflict but I can imagine much riveting conversation if the answer to everything the other person says is "Yes, I agree."

I'd rather a relationship where there's mutual piss taking...sounds like he's afraid to step on her toes or something.

Doesn't sound like a fun marriage anyway, but loving yes and that's the main thing I suppose.

    Sure its working for them.

Can't he go away already? He lost. Who cares what he thinks anymore.

LDS live regimented lives scripted by their Church. Have known many for many years. Nice, cleancut folk following an extremely intrusive, parochial and domineering religion.

    Romney. So last week.

    Good grief, no!
I would never marry someone like that, it would freak me out no end.
I have been in relationships where someone actually tried to put me on a pedestal, I absolutely hated it.
Relationships are about being equal partners, not about one worshipping the other, or pretending not to have arguments. How on earth are those kids supposed to learn how to resolve conflicts in an adult way if they never see their parents argue?

In all honesty, this sounds seriously sick.
