    hi there ,

I was thinking about entering this in the half distance category and have a few questions that hopefully someone here might be able to answer , it would be great :

im 5'9ish just under 70kgs and woudl consider myself relatively fit. I cycle 15-20k most days just as a commuter and would play football competitively 2-3 times a week.

    1. is it realistic that i could do this having never run long distance before ?

    2. how many months intense training roughly would it take , training say 5 days a week ?

    3. how would it affect my bodyweight/shape ? would it be possible to maintain or gain weight while training ?

    4. would i need to cut out junk food etc ?

    thanks !

    1. Yes, people do the marathon after only a few months of training.
    2. Depends on whether you want to compete or complete. Standard online training plans are less than 20 weeks in duration.
    3. Depends on the training you do. It is possible to gain weight while training. If calories in > calories out then you gain weight.
    4. Not necessarily. Check out pictures of people at the middle/back of the pack at any race. They're not all slim.
