Hi guys I know it sounds stupid but I don't know if I have a mouth ulcer or an absyss I don't want to attend a dentist until I'm sure because well it would waste mine and there time I remember having an absyss years ago and my face seemed to disfigure overnight and I didn't get much sleep with pain. And although I am in a lot of pain There is no swelling this time but there is a medium sized lump in my gum anyone know how to tell the difference ?

do a google image search for ulcers. they don't usually swell, and you can see a definite round red outline. a medium sized lump is still a swelling. you're better off getting it checked properly.

If there is a problem in your mouth go to a dentist, its most likely tooth related. But whatever it is your dentist will have seen it before and know what to do. Don't go trying to self diagnose, just go to the dentist.

Pain is pain, it's not wasted time to book a 5minute appointment to get this checked out.

I really wish I could but I do not have a medical card and I cannot in any way afford to see a dentist If it was that simple I wouldnt be posting in an online forum looking for a solution. No disrepect meant to anyone

They will send a bill certainly but that buys some time.

I do agree with the above posts and think you should get yourself to a dentist but I am strangely curious to hear what happens if you "look after it" yourself :D you're braver than me that's for sure!

I had one years ago, as a teenager. I burst it and a bit of horrible liquid came out which tasted worst than a bad pint of Guinness.

In short it didn't kill me, I had no ill effects and the absyss didn't come back afterwards.

However, remember one important point - I'm not a Dentist.

Without dentist intervention, the swelling WILL return, in days/weeks/months. Surely a friend or family member could loan you the money to get treated? Or approach SVP for help?
