Depends how high your standards were to begin with. If they are unrealisticaly high and you seek near perfection, then you've got to sort that out because you'll find it difficult to meet someone good enough and you'll most likely end up unhappy.

But having standards is a good thing, and the majority of people have quite healthy and realistic standards for people.

Depends what your standards are, are they unrealistic? Are you willing to make some allowances or are your standards set to high?

Having standards is good but compromise is essential sometimes.

Edited it to reflect most relationships after a while. Nobodys perfect and in the small wee hours of a crappy day, everyones a cnut, but on a good day, kinda liking someone can be great. If you start out madly in love and after 10 years end up still liking the other person, you're beating the odds by a long margin.

Very true, that's why it's a good idea to be mad about them from the start...If you start off on dropped standards then the likelihood of you still wanting to breath in the same air after ten years together are extremely slim.
