Anyone watch this last night? It's apparently the Spanish Downton Abbey..
    Its in Spanish but subtitled.
Watched the first episde last night looks like it could be good, a lot more murder mystery then downton..
    Anyone else watching it?

I've been trying to find info online like how many seasons there's been but anything relating to it is in spanish, which isn't my strong point..

Do ye think julio and the daughter will get together?

Other than being a period piece dealing with the rich employers and working servants, it's really nothing like Downton. It's good though. First episode was good and it's left me wanting to see more.

Hope I can help you with that. I live in Spain and I've recently watched GRAND HOTEL seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 has 9 episodes total. Season 2 is currently on air on Antena 3 and tonight premieres episode 2x08. After this one they go into midseason/Christmas hiatus, but there are 8 remaining episodes to air in early 2013.

So far... season 1: 9 episodes. Season 2: 16 episodes.

Of course Julio and Alicia will get together... but not for now my dear. If you are curious about when they'll kiss for the first time, I tell you... But I don't want to be a SPOILER hehehehe.

It's true. Downton Abbey (also aired in Spain by the same channel: Antena 3) is more a classic soap: drama + historic elements. Grand Hotel is more a thriller set in early 20th Century: drama + crime story. Both share the upstairs/downstairs theme.

As Downton uses history to reflect the time in the series, Grand Hotel uses some inventions (like electric light in episode 1 or the fingerprints for identification) to do it.

You'll enjoy one episode in season 2 where a young Agatha Christie stays in the hotel and get the inspiration for her first novel and Poirot character from the spanish detective investigating the crimes on Grand Hotel (Ayala).

I must say, the older characters on Grand Hotel are better actors than the young ones: I think Amaia Salamanca/Alicia is a beauty, but a terrible actress, and Yon Gonzalez/Julio is cute but too stiff. Concha Velasco as Angela or Adriana Ozores as Doña Teresa are great.

    Hope you like it.

    Loving this show.
Disagree about the acting, all the cast work well, none of them excel but workman like performances. Combined with the writing which is melodrama at ti's best this is top class entertainment.
Delighted to hear theirs more than one season, I feared that this would end up as a one off show, which would be a pity as the premise and setting have potential for several seasons worth of mystery. This is a hotel so lots of closets for all the skeletons.
And just to add Yon Gonzalez/Julio is gorgeous looking, have we seen him before, he looks like someone from some perfume or vodka add.

So, watched the last episode there this week. Really enjoyed it. It was a bit silly in places - all the intrigue and back-stabbing going on, but it was still good fun. I think there are a few plot holes left, or maybe I just wasn't paying attention for some of them.

Anybody know if Sky Arts is planning on showing series 2?

Finished with a double ep a week or so ago. Don't you have series link?
It'll probably run again coming up to series 2 if they show that. I think one of the Irish channels trailered it too.

Not sure if it's re-running, but if you really want to know the secrets ...

    Gold Knife Killer:
The butler did it - Benjamín, no reason given for it though, and he leaves (or seemlingy does) in the last episode

    Cristina's killer:
Sophia (the sister) did it, but it was in the heat of the moment type thing, not pre-meditated - she was trying to get back the letter. I never did figure out what happened to the letter after that though.

    Contents of the letter:
It's a letter from Don Alarcón to (Alicia's father) to Ángela (the housekeeper) talking about the regret he felt allowing their son, Andrés to grow up as a servant and saying that he plans to leave the hotel to him as his first born. Belén finds the letter and marries Andrés.
