RTE is to be congratulated that it holds the rights to International Rugby but its coverage is weak. What good is it having these rights if the standard of coverage are not up to the BBC.?

I actually enjoy the RTE panel...conor o' shea in particular is very knowledgable.....its that D*&khead Ryle Nugent commentating that does my nut in and therefore I switch to BBC/Sky Sports

ditto....RTE panel are quite knowledgeable and imo better and less biased than their Beeb counterparts (esp. during an England match ) but christ on a bike, Vile Nugent has to be the worst commentator on the airwaves, and that's some achievement given that it includes those cringe-inducing Nordie yelllowpack commentators who seem to have taken over at SKY.

PS: OP you need to re-phrase that poll to match the thread title.

Last time I checked this was a RADIO thread?

EDIT: How is that even a poll?

    Welcome to boards PODboy.

You'll get the knack of it soon enough.

You might get a better response in the Rugby Forum.

But sort out that damn poll before you go asking them over there. ;)

Having to listen to Ryle Nugent make me switch over. I flick over for the analysis sometimes. He has to be across all sports the worst commentator i've heard. As he's RTE head of sport, who's going to tell him.

I dunno. I got the impression the OP is Irish.

If George Hook is on, I switch over immediately. Apart from him and his tiresome 'controversialist' stance I enjoy the analysis. As others have said, Conor O'Shea is excellent.

If Ryle Nugent is commentating, I switch over during the game. Awful commentator. RTE seem to have a dearth of good commentators for rugby and football.

George Hook, Tom Mc Gurk, Ryle Nugent - three reasons why watching Sky or BBC is better, heck I would prefer to watch TG4 even though I barely understand what they are saying, still sounds better than the tripe RTE serves up

I will watch on RTE if the game is on there.

Ryle Nugent's D4 drawl and him trying to talk too much, is enough to put me off him.

The best commentator RTE ever had was Jim Sherwin. Authentic broadcasting voice, none of this D4 sh*te, and very knowledgeable.

Its the commentators not the panel. I find myself switching over to BBC every now and again to give my ears a rest.

Sherwin knowledgeable? Tony Ward once had to explain to him on air what kicking out on the full meant. He'd a better broadcasting voice than Ryle Nugent but he was all hot air.

I remember a horrible interview he did with Steve Davis at Goffs years ago also. Davis had a bemused look on his face throughout at the kind of ridiculous questions he was being asked. Embarrassing to watch.

Why does everyone hate Ryle and George. Ryle isn't too bad but can be annoying sometimes. Hook is quality. He tells it how it is.some of his diatribes are a pain but still he is the only one, bar Conor O'Shea (sometimes), actually properly lashes into DK. That commentator who commentated for the Ireland Aussie game in the RWC is abysmal.

George is like the bad cop, he is there to be hated. Personally I like George....

    Nugent on the other hand

The BBC had an Irish guy commenting on the England game at the weekend. Was his name Conor McNamara? I think I recognized his voice from NewsTalk or something.

Yes, that's Conor McNamara. He used to be the TV3 Football commentator. He has worked for BBC Television and Radio Five Live for the last few years. His accent became half English half Irish since he moved there.

Ryle Nugent annoys me....was at the Ireland/France game with a mate and the whole time we were there we were slagging what Nugent was saying no doubt!

"Assss the raiiiin pooors down here in the Aviiiiivaaaaaaa" is a classic of his, ****bag!!
