Cyclists

there is a serious amount of cyclists out and about on our roads on the weekends, especially Sunday mornings.

I had the unfortunate of being stuck behind a gang of them coming in from Kilcullen yesterday...pity they wouldnt cycle in single file when they know there is a line of traffic behind them...they basically ignored us until the road opened up at Kilashee House and then we got passed them..

Problem was I got stuck behind another group of them from the town out to Sallins and they decided to take up the full road again and only half of them use the cycle lane.

Wife also said she got stuck behind a gang of them going through the Millenium Park one day...There is a big wide cycle lane in there but they took up the road and would not pull in to let her pass.

I'm all for a bit of excercise folks, but if you are part of these groups, please have some consideration for other road users and go to single file when traffic is approaching from behind

That makes no sense. Why would you want them to go single file when that just makes the line of cyclists twice as long? Unless you are saying you just want to 'squeeze past'. Which is dangerous and equally silly.

This is a discussion forum. Do you want a discussion, in which people might disagree with you, or is this some sort of Public Service Announcement, in which case the mods can just close the thread now?

That was a quick week, it's Friday already.

Ok, I don't agree with him either (to put it mildly), but he made his point politely and logically. He just doesn't see the other side of it and probably 80% of other motorists would agree with him, so he's not off the wall.

Should there be a cyclists v motorists forum for people who want to blather on about this one again. And again. And again. And...

I understand him, but he doesn't see the other side of how anti-social a group ride would be if we all had to ride single file when the roads narrow or there is traffic. Or the lack of facilities/suitable road space provided for cyclists meaning that people are forced to use those very same narrow roads. I live in Nenagh and absolutely adore our cycleway that connects us to Limerick--it's far from perfect but I do feel extremely safe when I use it and it's grand for group rides.

I do see a lot of bad cycling tbh, like when people don't use the hard-shoulder of the road when there is plenty of space there. Motorists do have really valid complaints sometimes. So I never appreciate the narky responses cyclists give to motorists on this, and many other forums.

Not the OP. It is the criminally lazy and inept moderation that I reported.

A person posts a polite post in a forum. Mod couldn't be arsed having it there so flings it somewhere he/she deems more relevant, without checking whether this issue had ever been discussed and the manner of that discussion.

    Lazy ass attitude.

I was in a long line of cyclists yesterday in the area - though I don't think that was us - could have been.

Anyway, there was about 14 out, and ideally I would have liked to group to stay 2-abreast but split into 2 groups to allow cars pull in if necessary. However, this is very hard to orchestrate and we didn't hold up any cars for more the a minute or so. We go single breast whenever it makes sense.

Cyclists rarely add any more time to your journey, you will more likely catch up with that Sunday driver/truck/tractor that would have held you up anyway. Do you post about other slow vehicles on the road besides cyclists?

There were a serious amount of motorists out this morning on the old Dublin road between Bray and Ballybrack. Took up the whole road and delayed me getting to work on bike. Wife was also stuck behind them as far as Sallynoggin. No chance of any of them pulling over to allow us pass.

I'm all for a bit of motoring but could they please have some consideration for other road users when cyclists are approaching from behind and they are just sitting still watching the tail end of the car in front.

    Now are we all square?

Same rule applies to questioning mods about their actions in respect of other forums as applies here. Any problems, reporting the post is fine (or PM'ing the mod). Do not start discussing mod actions in-thread though.

OP, it is perhaps a little unfortunate that you chose a topic that is covered quite regularly in this forum, and I'm closing this thread. You could do a seach for similar threads, or if you wish PM me and I'll point you in the right direction

    Thanks
