Lads I was just hoping to get some info on this Golf club . I'm hoping to join in January . Iv only played it once before in June but it was a horrible wet morning . Iv rang 5 or 6 times since trying to get a Saturday tee time but no Joy 😔😔

I was just wondering what the practice facilities are like if any ??

Does the course be closed much during the year ?

Do you need a existing member to mark your 3 cards or can anybody with a GUI do this for you ?

And is it much hassle to get early Saturday or Sunday tee times even with the membership ?

    Thanks in advance

I can't be 100%, but from what I remember, there is no range. Theres a small putting green behind the 1st tee box.

I'd imagine they keep the course open as much as possible, to cater to hotel stayers, but it does tend to get a bit soggy in wet weather.

From my understanding, you only need someone with a GUI card to sign your 3 cards, not necessarily Citywest members (I could be wrong on this last bit). They do have to be scorecards from City West GC though.

As for Tee times, I'd imagine they have a certain number of slots reserved for members on both Sat & Sunday mornings. Any time I've tried to get a time as a visitor there I've never had any trouble, so I would have thought it should be ok for members too. I would have thought that if you tell them you are planning to join they'll find you a time to get out & play.

I suppose you could call the old Lakes Course across the road, which is now 9 holes as far as I know, practice facilities?

    Hey danny.

Im a member in citywest. It,s a lovely course..greens are immaculate. Very nice community in the club.

    1. Practice facilities aren,t great..there are 2 practice/driving nets but the are poorly positioned in a shaded corner by the 1st tee box,so it tends to be wet most of the year. The practice green is beautiful though..unfortunately no chipping allowed around the practice green.

    2. Course was closed a few times over the summer due to very heavy rain, drainage work has taken place over the summer and course has improved greatly.

    3. You need gui member to mark you card, not nescessarily a citywest member, but if you need a member to do so i would gladly help you out.

    4. Never had a problem getting on the timesheet at weekends or midweek competitions. You really need to book a day or two in advance however.

What is Citywest like for getting out in the summer evenings? Easy to get 9 holes in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 366 ✭✭sodbuster77

What sort of subs are they looking for?

No problem getting 9 holes during the long evenings..

Subs are 670 for full membership next year. Also 250 pay&play @15 per round. No joining fee.

How much are competition entry fees and what's the general turn out like in them. With the Pay&Play option do you know if the €15 per round is regardless of whether playing 9 or 18 holes and are there any barriers to playing any of the club competitions. If eligible presume there's a separate competition entry fee on top of the €15 green fee payable? Thanks.

Competition fees for full members is €5. Pay and play is €15 + 5. If a pay and play member plays just 9 holes its €10. No barriers for any members entering any of the comps over the year. General turnout for saturday/sunday comps over the summer was 150 players.

Thanks for all the replys lads , iv decided im going to go with Grange Castle pay and play membership .

It's only a 2 minute drive from the house and it has great practice facility's .

I didn't realize they did the pay as you play membership so that's why I was looking at Citywest but I'm delighted to be joining GC.

I've been a pay & play member there for last couple years.

Should be a great starting course for u & there is plenty of challenge there to improve your game, especially the run of holes from 13-16.

If you're looking for a playing partner when starting to play the competitions let me know & I'll be happy to slot in for a game with you.

Best of luck & happy golfing

Just keep an eye on your deal there Danny.

If I remember correct, the 250 Euro deal is for 5 day membership.

Think the 7-day pay & play was 340 & 19 green fee for weekend competitions.

That'll probably change again in the new year though. I'd definitely ring the clubhouse to confirm the annual membership fees, the 250 pay & play may only be through to March or so, as I think thats what they class as their year.

Just an update on the grange castle membership options for 2013.

    It'll be 275 for the 7 day pay&play & 17 per round.
    €750 for full membership.
€2 competition fee applies to all members to enter weekly comps as far as I know

If you can wait until further into the year for a GUI then why not. There isn't gonna be a huge amount of golf in January and February so as long as GCGC will accommodate you.

Pretty sure you will be able to join in Jan at that rate through to mar 2014. I think thats what I did. That way you can get your 3 cards in prior to march and be ready to play in the competitions from as early as possible.

Ring the clubhouse & they'll confirm for sure.

I am considering joining Citywest. I have heard/read mixed things about the place so hoping maybe somebody on here who is a member or played it recently can give some advise/feedback on the course condition and what their experience of being a member there is like.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭ForeRight

    Played it last week.

    Greens were super.

6 par 3's being the only downside for me. Other than that it's a good test. Not every hole needs a driver and you need to play for position. I always enjoy it I must say.

I'm not sure what the time sheets are like but they seem to have s big member base.

The lack of a clubhouse in Citywest let's the place down.

I was a member there a few years ago.
    Left after 2 years.
No clubhouse, no club feel to the place.
Not sure what they are charging these days but there are better options in the area

I'm a pay as you play member there since last summer. No problems getting on time sheet at weekends, although you need to book early to get a morning slot. Course is very well looked after. Greens are as good as you'll play anywhere in summer or winter. Some areas very soft the last few weeks but generally pretty good. Think they've done alot of drainage work the last year or so? 6 par 3's and lack of practice facilities definitely a downside but other than that I find it a decent set up. Good changing facilities. Tight tricky front 9 but opens up nicely on the back 9. Lads in the club shop are sound and always very helpful and the competitions are well ran. At the price I'm paying i cant complain anyway.

Thank you for the replies, not overly concerned about the lack of clubhouse and practice facilities especially with the cost of membership. I guess the next thing for me to do is get out there and play, which i hope to do in the next few weeks. Then maybe I can finally get a GUI.
