Asking on behalf of a friend. He called over today and mentioned that he got a letter in the post today telling him that he may be entitled go claim fuel allowance. At the minute he is living with one other person, that person is working and as such my friend was wondering if he would stand a chance at getting the allowance. Times are tight for him ATM and the allowance would really help him.

If living with means house share, yes fuel allowance should be applied for.

It depends on the relationship he has with the other person in the house if he would be entitled to the payment or not.

He may qualify if he lives alone or only with:

A dependent spouse, civil partner or cohabitant and/or dependent children
Other people getting one of the qualifying payments who would also be eligible for a Fuel Allowance in their own right
A person who gives you full-time care and attention if you have a disability
    Person(s) getting short-term Jobseeker's Allowance
    Person getting Carer's Allowance

He won't qualify if he lives with someone who is not getting one of the qualifying payments for the Fuel Allowance.

He should apply anyway and receive the decision regarding it.

if the housemate earns over 100euros per week fuel allowance isn't payable.. unless they are cohabiting then his/her means would be assessed on the JA claim
