Every service unless there the high intensity discharge plug type. I think that's about every 4th

    No, that's way too often!
The service interval is every 9,000 miles.
The standard Bosch/NGK plugs are good for 40,000-60,000 minimum!
Plugs were usually changed on Mercs on a B service interval so that would be every 2 years or 18,000.
But they can go way more than 18,000 though.

I never believed the claims, for the cost of them, what 15 euro for standard ngk I'd prefer them in tip top condition.

Iridium are ment to last huge milage but iv never got much more than a year/ 4000 miles on the bike.

What ignition system is on your bike though? is it wasted spark?
If so then your plugs are probably doing 4 times the work.
Bikes typically also rev to a much higher degree than cars.

Rather than follow a timetable, I tend to monitor fuel economy and, when it drops for no apparent reason, I start replacing the usual suspects. My older (W210) E200 was supplied with BERU Ultra 14FGH-8 DTURXO (maybe 33K miles). Then it got a set of Denso K20PBR-S10 5061 (approx 40K miles). Now, I'm on my second set of iridium (NGK BKR5EIX-11) plugs. I replaced the first set after 57k miles and I have to say that they looked so good, I was tempted to put the old ones back in. The new plugs and a new air filter brought the fuel economy back to normal.
Your kompressor engine is far more moderner than mine so these part numbers are probably not correct. I'm just saying that my engine seems to like iridium!

It's efi and the plug top coils.

    16k redline.

In perfect conditions they might last that long but engines don't run in perfect revs/conditions, they might not be fueled perfectly etc etc.

Wasted spark refers to the plugs firing on both power and exhaust strokes.
In other words it doesn't just fire on the power stroke, like some engines.

I don't think it would, that was a thing with distributors wasn't it? It's quite a sophisticated system so I don't think it would.

No, its on many bike engines with CDI units as well.

I would of thought that systems using two coils with four HT leads would all use a waste spark ignition, and the coil on plug type wouldn't.

I would have thought that too.

A freind of mine bought a komp merc with a full service history from a posh main(merc) dealer with 86000 miles and it had only had one set of plugs done from new. 06 model.

Its not unusual for Kompressor's to run plugs until 80,000 miles.
Bosch plugs can do 60,000 miles easy.
I think I will change mine on the next scheduled B service at 180,000 miles.
