No warranty from dealer

I went to see a focus st over the weekend and it had a full service history and all seemed ok. He then announced that the dealership owned the car twice (I thought was odd) and it will be sold with no warranty as its classified as high performance.

I found this a bit strange as this was the reason why I chose a dealer over a private sale. I was just wondering if this is standard across all dealers or just this one?
    Cheers

If it was sub 3k in price I could understand his hesitation. A gearbox or engine gone could cost far more than any profit possible on the car. If not then walk away. He has no trust in the car, so why would you.

On the point of "no warranty", technically there is always a warranty when selling any product from a company to a member of the product. Our law states that the product sold should be of merchantable quality and last a reasonable amount of time. Reasonable being the key word, what defines that is up to a Judge on the day.

    Run. A. Mile.

I would expect a 3 month engine/gearbox warranty at the very least. Any dealer not willing to stand over a car knows something about it that means he wants to wash his hands of it.

Buy it with no warranty even get them to write it on the receipt if he wishes, make sure and get a great discount for no warranty. If anything goes wrong he has to fix it regardless. A dealer has to stand over the car regardless of what he says if your just an ordinary buyer.

Here is link to the car. I would expect no warranty if it was a grand or so but not for 8.

This is nonsense. The car needs to be 'fit for purpose' and 'of merchantable quality'. There is a huge leap from that to a dealer having to 'fix it regardless'.

Classic. I haven't bought from a dealer for 5 years but thought it would be best for this type of motor.

I wouldn't worry about the engine unless it has no service history as it's based on the mighty Volvo T5 and is bulletproof compared to alot of modern turbo engines, gearbox should present no issues either as it is a simple affair. Drivetrain can be fuppered pretty easily though and it has half a dozen other small things but tbh engine+gearbox wouldn't be a major issue.
