Primary teacher's wages after tax

    Hi,

I have been teaching in Dublin for 6 1/2 years in a primary school and I have an A post. However, my partner has recently gotten a job in Cork. I am thinking of leaving my school and looking for a job in cork but I don't know if we would be better off moving to a town in between Dublin and Cork as I would be loosing the post. So I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what the take home pay is on a fortnightly basis for a primary teacher who is in their 7th year teaching. I think I am paying a lot of tax at the moment and we might be better off just moving to cork but I hate talking to people about money and feel awkward asking people what they are being paid. Would anyone be able to help me? We are in such a predicament at the moment and don't know what to do!

    Thanks :)

You can use the salary calculator on the INTO site to see what the gross pay is for someone in their 7th year teaching. The take home is going to depend on your individual circumstances, if you're single/married etc. If you deduct your post allowance, there probably isn't a big difference between 6 and 7 years. My last increment worked out at about €3 a week after deductions.

Thanks for replying. I can work out the salary but I was just wondering what my take home pay would be each fortnight. I just wonder if there is a big different in the take home pay if I didn't have a post?Do you have any idea?

I haven't a clue because the post allowance can vary too. Does it show up on your payslip as an allowance?

For me the big issue would be trying to get a job in Cork.
