Thailand - suggestions?

    Hi,

I'll be in Thailand for approx 3 weeks over Christmas and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places to visit?

I've been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, Buriram and Koh Chang before and enjoyed all of these places but would like to try somewhere new. I've thought about Kata, Phuket - anyone been there? What about Hua Hin or Krabi, thoughts?

I'm open to all suggestions, I enjoy peace and solitude but I also like a drink or two to round off the day (with a few 'choons' to boot) so I'm open to any ideas, beach or inland, north or south ;)

    Cheers folks :D

    J

Word of advice. Stay away from Krabi. Had to spend a day and night there in 2002 once as i getting an overnight bus to Bangkok. Nothing to do there and no alcohol was served due to religious grounds (or so we were told).

Phuket has the nice beach but you will be pestered by locals trying to sell you stuff on the beach.

Yeah. I've encountered those 'no-alcohol' days before myself. 'Buddha Day' I was told by one of the locals at the time. But this effects the whole country, not just Krabi. I was in Pai at the time and the local 7-11 sold me a bag of booze on the sly to keep me going ;) - There are ways around these things!!

Been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Phi Phi. Since you've already been to the first two, you know what to expect. Phi Phi was great though, it was our honeymoon, so romantic, idyllic solitude was perfect for us.
Stayed in the Island Village Resort. It's not cheap, but we loved it there. It's a piece of paradise. Wouldn't stay more than a few days though, as it's quite small and personally I get bored of lying on beach all day. We did the snorkelling trip to Maya Bay though. The trip was good fun, Maya Bay part I'd skip.

I'd give Phuket a miss if I was you, it's expensive and more of a package holiday kind of place.
A half hour boat ride from Krabi you have Railay beach which is a magical place, and you can get another boat direct from there to Phi Phi. Both pretty busy though.
Koh Lanta has plenty of quiet beaches, the further south you go the quieter it gets.
