Advice on what to buy?

I'm a bit of a novice when it come to IT so I'm looking for some advice re getting a laptop. Our current laptop is a 5 year old Hp Pavillion dv9000 which did us fine but the plastic cover of the screen is separating and it is going a bit slow these days.

Essentially we are looking for a very simple laptop which will be used for Internet, uploading pics and videos(we have a new born so will do lots of that!), music player, and minimal microsoft office usage - we can transfer office software from the current laptop.

We are not into gaming or downloading(apart from some music, ITunes etc). Portability isn't too important as we will be using it at home. 14/15 " screen is fine.

I was going to suggest Asus X401A to my wife but she can be a bit deferential to better known brands and I don't think she has ever heard of them!

Budget is about €500 but could go a bit higher. I would have no issue buying online but wife would prefer buying from a shop.

    Hope you can help. Thanks.

p.s. edit to say : if you could link to a shop/webpage it would be great.
