I rang meteor about an over due bill told them I'll pay them off, they told me they handed my debt to a agent that they have no more to do with it, after about 20 mins on the phone the guy agreed for me to pay 37.95 of for the next 12 weeks and that he would have a bill sent to me ASAP,

I rang the debt place told them im dealin with meteor they told me I couldn't do that. She told me she would have to ring meteor and see what they said

2 days went I got a phone call tell me that meteor told me on the phone I have to pay the debt agent and I couldn't pay them and that I pay 38 euros a week I told her what I was told on the phone

She told me that I had to pay the agent and not meteor I told her that she could do what every she wants that I am paying meteor and that they can chase meteor for the money..

I never got the bill from meteor but found an old one, since I agreed to pay 37.95 a week and meteor did to but failed to agree on the payment by not sending me a bill in the post could I in turn pay 20 or even 15 a week and they can't touch as I am paying it off ?

What exactly are you trying to ask here?

In general, if the debt has been assigned it is probably unlikely that the original contracting party will have the right to negotiate or settle the debt, but it depends on the arrangement between Meteor and the Debt Agency.

Basically, if there is no agreement with you for a lessor amount (excluding legal remedies such as cross claims, set off and abatement), you are liable for the full amount of whatever you owe.

The Debt Company are only Acting on-behalf of Meteor,

I myself and Meteor came to an Agreed Fee, to pay within 3months, they said they would send me out a Bill so i could Start Paying,

Since they couldn't be a***sed about sending me the Bill. (but either way i did find one.)

& told the Debt company that they told me to pay them and not Meteor, (Which is 100% Lie, they told me that i can start Paying them and Just have to Rind the Debt company to let them know)

Does this mean my Agreed Fee is Void, and if i start paying 20 euros (Which i can about only Afford) the Debt nor Meteor can take future Action.. Since i am paying off the Debt, the Debt is < 500...

There seems to be a lot of "she said...and they said". Ring the debt collection company and ask if they will come to an agreed amount (sometimes less) and ask for it in writing so its plain and simple who your paying.

I've always heard never to deal with the debt collection company, but the company you have the contract with.

Apologies in advance but I am new to boards.ie and this seems to be the only forum that is currently covering legal matters.

Does anyone know what the time limit is for a claim of negligence against a solicitor ie. from when it happened to when you make a complaint? The literature from the Law Society differentiates between Inadequate Professional Services and Negligence and states as below,

'There are strict time limits attaching to claims for negligence, and therefore it
is important that you obtain independent advice as soon as possible'
    [/I]

I mean, are we talking weeks, months or years here?

    Thanks.

Years; but obtain advice immediately. I am certainly no mod but it's not a good idea to look for any specific info on a professional negligence claim on a forum like this. I know you haven't, but just letting you know in early course.

OP - contact MABS or FLAC and see what they can advise - legal advice can not be sought here. I'm not 100% certain what you're looking for in all honesty. Perhaps ask for the thread to be moved to consumer issues - they seem to have more input on this sort of thing and a different charter.

Do try and have a bit of a sense of humour though.

    jblack,

    Many thanks for the reply.

I wasn't going to take any advice here as gospel. I was just looking for the wisdom of the crowd.

I do intend to meet with another solicitor about this.

    Thanks again.

Advice here is like the Gospel; nonsense.
