The UN was rightly seen as being ineffective in the early 90s when they stood back and watched the slaughter of nearly a million people in Rwanda and after doing that they helped the perpetrators evade justice. The UN were equally useless in Bosnia and elsewhere.
In recent times however, the antics of the UN seem to have taken a very sinister turn for the worse. It seems the UN are now intent on intemperate behavior unbecoming of the diplomats they are supposed to be. They have backed the ousting of leaders throughout the Arab world and in doing so they have played an active part in destabilizing the entire region. The leaders of Libya and Egypt may have had their faults but they were also doing a lot of good for their countries. Now the middle east is likely to fall into the control of a bunch of mad mullahs or something worse. Why is the UN doing this? Theories welcome.

Please be advised that per the sticky at the top of the Political Theory forum, your OP should comply with the following quoted guideline when starting a thread:

When starting a thread in the Political Theory forum, please ensure that you include in your discussion a political theory (or a synthesis of theories) that may be used to explain and predict the problem you are discussing, ideally with the names of political theorists and their works for support.
Asking for other posters to provide a theory does not satisfy this guideline.
