    Hi all,

First post. Just wondering if anyone could give me some advise/information with regards to the laws, taxation etc of importing gold into Ireland.

I have been working in an African country for the last few years and I am thinking about picking up some gold here to bring home to help towards buying a home. I know the requirements here (gold export license, export declaration, export tax etc) but am wondering about what i need to do on the other side, in Ireland.

I want to do it all above board and will only be bringing back small to medium amounts. I am not sure how I might sell it back in Ireland or if i should just hold onto the gold myself for a while.

Either way, I would be grateful for any advise from anyone in the know.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Bump, also interested in an answer to this. From another thread (albeit with respect to silver, think good is different) it seemed to state that there is no VAT on legal tender (present day coins for example) but it also said that as long as you've paid VAT somewhere in the EU you're good, but surely us there's no VAT you should not have to pay it anywhere.
